Merryfair WAU Ergonomic Office chair review

I've had mine for 2 days now....got it from Desk and Chair...it's still 6999 on sale with them if you want all the options....ODO doesn't have the full mesh in black which I got....white is too much and needed full mesh cos soggy ass is a thing in DBN.

I just got a Wau from ODO after trying it out at Desk and Chair.

I love most aspects of it, but not yet sure about the comfort of the seat. On the ODO listing, the image they show for the black frame, fabric seat variant is for the 609 model (narrow back). The one they delivered is actually the 709 model (wide back). Going by specs the 709 seems better on paper since everything is bigger, except the seat is supposed to be deeper on the 609.

Has anyone actually seen the 609 model with the fabric/padded seat in SA (ie: not just in listing pics)?

Has anyone compared a 609 and a 709 side-by-side that both have the same seat material? It seems the showrooms always have only one of the models for a given seat material, so you can't do true side-by-side comparisons between the two.

Apart from the seat length, I also wish it was a bit wider. The plastic on the sides of the seat digs into my fat ass a bit.
How do you feel about the chair a year later?

Took the leap last week, and got the chair.
Happy customer so far, although I only received it on Monday, so I will do a more in-depth review when I have a bit more of a weighted opinion to give

I still think the seat could have been a bit more comfortable, but all-round it's a good comfortable chair and the glide-tilt mechanism is awesome. I'm still pretty happy with my purchase, though I've never tried a Herman Miller.

Thanks! I finally ordered one now, after eyeing it since the inception of this thread. Finally, my back can rest 😅
no probs :Dfeel your pain, took me a while to get used to it (actually sitting upright properly) because I'm so used to slouching over on cheapy chairs, but this one's really lekker so enjoy

That's quite reassuring to hear! I've been folding a throw pillow in double to act as lumbar support, but it's a hit-and-miss lol. Now I'll force myself to sit upright in the manner we're intended. (And hopefully, rest my head a bit as well!)

Thanks @Sweiss_ , got mine today after eyeing it for like 3 years (Could've gotten it when it was under R5k). Funny how after I ordered it I was watching Silicon Valley and the "CEO chair" was actually the same chair so I guess you could call it fate.

I have both the Herman Miller Aeron and now the Merryfair Wau so I'll just give my 2c. The Herman Miller is better constructed and feels like it will last 20 years, the arm rests are much more comfortable and can turn inward a lot more than the Wau. Adjustability wise I say the Wau has the edge just on the lumbar depth front and the headrest, even though not really used while working, when leaning back it's a lot nicer to lounge in the Wau.
Overall I would say can't go wrong with either but since I took my Herman Miller to work I needed something else at home to not sit like a gremlin. Only complaint is the arm rests feel a tad too far from my body (173cm & 68kg) so if it had side to side adjustment it would've been perfect. Oh and now that I've upgraded my chair feels like I need to upgrade everything else.

That's reassuring to hear. I'm getting mine later today or tomorrow. Coming from a free old office chair, this will be a huge upgrade.

Yeah wish I jumped on it sooner, but definitely worth the money though I'd say. The chairs we have at my office are utter ass.

So after waiting for 2 years before pulling the trigger, I finally received my Merryfair chair an hour ago. Upon taking off the plastic cover from the chair, I see the bottom plastic is cracked and the plastic lift lever is hanging on by a thread...

Onedayonly doesn't offer replacements, so I'm left without a chair after they refund me (if they'll hopefully do and don't try to blame me for the damage.) At least I have a witness who helped me take it out of the box. The box was also clearly resealed so someone else broke it, returned it and got sent my way.

MSP.

Never bought from ODO before, is it common practice to resell unboxed goods? Or are you 1 in a million? That's super annoying though, I wonder if you can get replacement parts (for free / under warranty) from whoever brings them in?

They sell new and sealed goods only. It looks like the supplier they make use of sent me this unit. ODO said they reached out to the supplier and will give me feedback as soon as they get it.

I suspect they'll collect it and just give me a refund. I guess I'll endure more back pain for some time 😅
