Heres my review of the MERRYFAIR WAU 2.0 office chair
Wau - MERRYFAIR
Merryfair Wau Ergo TPE Office Chair - Mango

WOW or WAU this thing looks amazing, like an art piece, the white exoskeleton that surrounds the chair, and the brushed billet die-cast aluminum base is especially striking.

Wau-Orange-High-Narrow-2.jpg

Assembling this thing was easy it arrived in a HUGE box in 3 pieces, the pre chair, the hydraulic lift, and the base with castors. Assembly time from unboxing was 5 minutes, just pop the hydraulic lift into the chair bottom, press the castors into place and then marry the chair with its base.

First impressions on sitting in the chair AMAZING, the adjustable backrest allows you to fit the lumbar support precisely into the small of your back from there you can adjust the pressure the lumbar support applies to this area. When you get this adjustment right, you can literally feel the stress draining away from your lower back.

The armrests can be adjusted to quite a high position and move up and down on a ratcheting system, the TPE material on the armrests take some getting used to initially, its a smooth but grippy rubbery material that feels hard at first but as heat is applied from your body it seems to soften up.

The backrest is made from a more flexible rubber TPE material that cocoons your back without applying too much pressure. As for backrest adjustability, it allows for either free recline, when you have the chair in this setting as you recline the seat base and the back pivot together so that your back lumbar support never moves out of its adjustment zone. It also allows for locked positional settings as with most office chairs. The recline tension can also be adjusted with a winder underneath the chair, this allows you to determine how much force you need to apply before the seat starts to recline backward.

The headrest is made of the same soft rubber material used on the backrest and ratchets up and down along the spine of the chair. It’s a comfortable piece although I do wish it also had the ability to pivot to fit the curve in your neck exactly.

The seat base, well…...this is where I had concerns, my daily office chair has a padded memory foam fabric seat, this has a rather firm TPE base the material is grippier and firmer than the backrest material. And initial thoughts were …….damn this is hard. After a few hours of working and an extended Apex legends gaming session, it seems to warm up and mold to your bottom which makes sitting on the base for long periods of time surprisingly pleasant.

So, in conclusion, the WAU ergo chair does what I wanted, after just a days use my back pain is GONE. I also wanted a chair that looks really good and stands out from the Vanilla gaming chair/ Office chair crowd, it definitely achieves this. If you are looking for a decent ergo chair designed by an actual seating company that targets productivity by keeping you alert and supporting your frame, then the WAU should be on your consideration list, if you want to spend your days in a cushy lounge chair then this WILL NOT work for you.

Out of interest, how tall are you and how much do you weigh. I am considering this chair, but I had a noble chair that was way to big and too hard for my liking so I went back to my cheapie.

Nice review. Pity I didn't see this before I pulled the plug on a gaming chair a few weeks ago. What were you using prior to this and what did you have prior to that, that gave you the back pain?

I was using this Classic Eames High Back - Flat Cushion - Office Group

And when that didn't work, I borrowed one of these

I'm sure for most people these chairs would be fine but I have spondylolythesis(worn disc's) from years of abuse due to being a cricketer and these chairs just couldn't provide the lumbar support I needed

Saw this chair for the first time on this post. Looks cool. Nice review!
Ps- cast aluminium, not billet.

And then the onedayonly deal pops up.
I'm taking the plunge.

And purchased the Grey one. Mango looks cool but Grey is a safer colour.

What do they normally cost? The one day only deal is R4999, but a chap in another thread yesterday mentioned he paid R4800 for one.

Saw these mentioned on the Mybb forums a couple of times, wanted to get one with the mesh and upholstered seat end of the month.

The price was 5.5k then, now its 7k! 30% Corona tax 😭 - bit the bullet on the TPE material ODO special, hope its not too hard... coming from a vertagear chair - which is OK at best.

FYI they are R4999 at Ixaxa now as well, probably for another few days (not just one day).

This is a bit concerning.. my ass likes some decent cushion but figured I'd take a gamble. We will have to see.
If it doesn't work out I'll just flog it on here!

Its takes some getting used to , but your ass will thank you within a week :ROFLMAO:

Is the rubber tpe base not quite grippy on your pants?

For those of you who've purchased the WAU chair off one day only... I hope you've done your research as to what the padding is like on the chair (the mango/grey parts). I sat on it yesterday, and its like sitting on a wooden school chair, however the salesmen did say you get to like it after a while

I was referring to the Spinelly, the one I purchased yesterday. The WAU is the 5.5K one on the desk and chair website.

Sjoe guys, not taking anything away from OP, but I bought 2 of these chairs and I'd still advise to try before buying. Not that easy with the lockdown, but my point is try not to order blindly unless it can't be helped (e.g. you don't live near to a supplier who has these chairs in their showroom).

One issue is that the base isn't that large, so hefty guys may not like them. HM Aeron is very well regarded online but I didn't like it when I tried it out in-store. So glad I didn't order one based off online reviews.

Shadow.clone, if buyers remorse sets in, I will be sending you a bill :D

Living in the bundus has it pros, this is unfortunately not one of them. With my stick figure physique and not used to any better I am sure it will be just as comfortable, maybe even more so, compared to the tomato box I am currently sitting on :)

Wonder how this compares.I prefer a cushioned seat.....

You know whats weird is I've been eyeing this chair (The high back) on deskandchair.co.za for the last two week and it was R2999, now this morning the price on deskandchair.co.za is R4500 and One Day Only has it for R2999.

Makes you wonder how much its really worth.....

My wife says it's their strategy to introduce price increases. Onedayonly retains the deals and has fairly good SEO, so anyone googling might see that in the past it was on special for X, but now it is X + Y and just assume the special ended.
