HeaDphone Discussions. (Audiophile and Gaming)

I missed out on SHP9500's by a day :'( PepeHands, was so keen for them:cry:

At least it doesn't have that 1980's curly telephone wire cable.

I actually like the twisted cable (or whatever its officially called), but I can see why it is only on the "Pro" version, gives one freedom around a mixing desk/PC without cable all over the place.

Yip. That's what made me change to "can be" instead "are" which would have included you in the statement...

No but I mean doesn't that change your mind? You are content with running into groundloop issues when not using the MMX 300 like a 990 people seem to think it is (in other words micless)?

Upgrade your Takstar Pro80s to Pro82s with the CM MH751. Zeos liked the 751/2 a lot more than the Alpha.

Yeah I have been wanting to try the 751's since I saw his reviews on them. But when there was a set of SHP's that had barely been used at all I really wanted to get a hold of them. Pity I missed them, wanted them since I could also connect a mic to them. Was looking in Presonus HD7's too but I need a mic and can't buy a standalone studio mic right now so need a integrated one.

Damn if I'd known I would have PMed you straight away. Saw the thread like 5 minutes after it was put up. Sorry man.

To be fair... I didn't pay much attention to the technicalities of the post. Was coming from a general polish a turd and call it a gaming turd and gamers will pay extra for it. Like chairs, keyboards etc.

You will love tubes dude. Everyone wants a DV. :D

Nah. I don't want tubes. No ways.

The idea of having these extra glass tubes sticking out of my gear does appeal to me at all. And they don't add anything to general use as far as I know, just music. In fact they might even muddy up gaming.

I may or may not end up climbing higher some day, but never to tubes.

Oh damnit. I mixed up you and De_Stroyer. Nevermind.

I don't recall getting a memo that we are considering Beyerdynamics turds now though?

So does that also qualify the Mobius as a turd keeping in mind who makes it?

might buy them on prime day depending on the discount,
have only read extremely good reviews

Sigh. Seeing as I quoted the wrong person let's try this again.

The thing to be aware of with a headset is you are limiting your dac/amp options severely. Because if mic and audio are cabled to separated devices from the same device you get groundloop noise, a lot of it.

The top can you can go to is basically the Mayflower Arc so you can never try richer audiophile options like R2R11s, Deckards, anything Class A basically.

If you want to be an audiophile, but want a headset style mic then your only choice is adding a Modmic to some headphones.

No not saying that... I haven't tried Beyers yet to can't comment. Will buy a set of 1990 when the 789 arrives. Was saying it would make sense if they used the the 990 drivers, add a mic and call it "gaming" and then add a premium/charge 1990 prices. The average gamer will never try the 1990 so they will get a couple of people that will buy them, more so if you add the people on youtube that are bribed into giving good reviews.

Ah ok. Gotcha finally.

Does the groundloop issue even happen when all devices in the chain are plugged into the same wall socket ie not via multi-plugs and extensions?

oooooh, Yeah I saw Pancakes' ones and would've grabbed those with the Vmoda. But also didn't have the cash so I wouldn't have been able to.

Might grab off Amazon if push comes to shove and I really want them.

Also while it's on my mind, does ZA have an Audio focused forum?

Suddenly feels like everyone is talking at once over each other (Slow Friday at the office?)

Anyway. Remind me again under what circumstances one gets a ground loop in a mic/headphone setup?
I have a seperate headphone and microphone (which I use rarely, one of those zalman el budgetos) but have never had ground loop issues with microphone and headphones plugged into the seperate jacks on my pc.

Also, almost certain if one uses a USB DAC to headphone Amp, or heck even an optical input DAC to headphone Amp, and plugs microphone directly to PC there wouldn't be a ground loop.

As far as I know yes because that would still be via different power bricks and PSUs right? It's the earths of the devices themselves freaking out, not further down the chain.

Just to be safe I recommend removing the ground wire from all the plugs. Just don't touch anything with a metal case :)

(Note: I am not an electrician and am prone to sarcasm... just an FYI)

Could anyone recommend wireless headphones in price range of R1500 with some links, looking for comfortable ones.

Actually separated like that you can literally never get ground loop.

It's when line in and out feed back to the same device that you get the loop. So V-Moda Boom Pro or any headset.

Ah, indeed, so how is one limited to using lower end headphone amps? Or did I miss something?

No. It's when they are combined that you are limited.

Because combined needs to be 1 to 1.

Maybe this way works better

1 -> 1 = FINE
2 -> 2 (or even more if you are Zeos nuts) = FINE
1 -> 2 = groundloop

And your 1->1 options are very limited because most dac/amps don't do recording. Basically from what I know you've got Sound Cards, that cheap Sybasonic unit, the GSX1000/1200 and the Mayflower Arc.

Do you need the mic? Because that effectively keeps you out of the audiophile space if you want that wireless too, especially at that budget.

I reckon the Arctis range is better than the Syberia though.
