HeaDphone Discussions. (Audiophile and Gaming)

I hereby officially revoke your recommendation license in this thread. Steelseries mentioned in a audiophile thread? BLASPHEMY!

Now, to get back to your question. Getting something wireless for gaming, under R1500, with acceptable audio quality? Oof.
 What's your suggestion on a mid range wireless headphones ?

500 bucks bro. Probably less for you.
He explains it's a fuckton cheaper than your other goal where the energiser alone costs way more.
That is a decent price. Where does it..err... stack up... against the Stax?

1500 is definitely not mid range in my non humble opinion...

R1500 is definitely not mid tier IMHO either - its stuck squarely in the entry level

do you want surround or just stereo? - if you don't mind stereo only the AKG Y50-BT used to sell for over R3k when it was in the range and Govan Mani still have a few of them left at a clearance special of R1500

heres what it went for on onedayonly .... - i think that Govan Mani have possibly 3 or 4 left in stock at R1500

definitely a mid range earphone at an entry level price ...... and if you ask them nicely they may ship to you at your cost and risk or you can arrange for shipping pickup from them

They do look proper good. Don't think I'll get them though. Have a couple of other sets I want to try on the 789 before I end on electrostatic.

Definitely a good choice...but who's to say he's in Durbs. You offering to go buy it for him?

He didn't exactly say but it seemed he considered them better than L300, so the current entry level earspeakers. He didn't mention 500s and it's clear he considers them worse than 700s.

He considers it the perfect electrostatic entry point. Heck perfect use for 500 bucks.

which is why i stated in my post that

"and if you ask them nicely they may ship to you at your cost and risk or you can arrange for shipping pickup from them"

i have had a few internet buddies who phoned them and arranged for them to courier stuff out of Durban but they paid extra for the courier service and they generally don't do online transactions because they do not currently have the infrastructure in place for it right now ..... but its easy enough to arrange your own courier pickup via XOC online (that's the online arm of The Courier Guy) or if you are unhappy with trying to arrange your own its easy enough to contact Scott on this forum to arrange the courier for you at his small markup charge

if none of those come right then he can phone Govan Mani and arrange to make an EFT payment and i would be happy to pick it up if he lets me know who he spoke to and send it via Postnet to Postnet at R99 if that suits you (they will obviously only release when the payment clears) but they are good buddies of mine and as long as he pays them directly i can assist in the shipping if he trusts me to do the collection for him and send via Postnet (y) ;) ...... this is if its required - because it is pretty easy to do your own arrangement using XOC

if he wants he can check for an online quote from XOC .... the details of the parcel dimensions are as follows (measured from the one i have)

weight : it says 245g on the box but i think thats the actual headphones since my scale weighs the complete package at around +/-500g
Height : 7cm
width : 21cm
depth : 23cm

obviously he can enter his recipient address details and Govan Mani's warehouse is at :

Govan Mani Durban
28 Dr AB Xuma Street
Durban KZN
4000
Phone: 031 304 6725

Sigh. Missed that. I'm still new to sending couriers to places that don't offer shipping though in my defence.

no probs (y) - as i stated though if he is having issues arranging it then i can possibly help him since the guys at Govan Mani are my buddies

a few of the guys from this forum as well as at AV Forums use Scott for the shipping from places that don't normally offer shipping - his markup is worth the peace of mind he provides IMHO

Schiit stack... Magni and modi... Hmmmm... GSP500... Hmmmm...

Firstly, I had low expectations. In fact I had so little hope, that I only really expected the GSP500 to sound somewhat louder and slightly clearer. After plugging everything in, I launched Deezer and ticked the HiFi option... Orestes by A Perfect Circle started jamming. I think I instantly started salivating.

The GSP500 1000% needs proper power to drive it. Everything came to life! The most noticeable thing was how wide the sound stage got. It opened up completely, so much so that I was looking up into the corners of the room to pinpoint where the music was coming from. The headset is definitely V shaped. Loads of low end for the open design, which is not that well rounded and a tad 'abrupt', maybe even sloppy. Once you listen for it an notice it, it can be quite distracting. I have not experienced this in a headset before.

Then I gooi a bit of MJ and all that goes away. As clear, thumping and energetic as I would expect it. This headphone is a tough one to figure out, it's not sure what it wants... Either that or my current mood is shifting from song to song. :D I will have to spend a lot more time with it in this configuration to see what it is all about.

CS and DayZ finally has some depth and distance to it again.

All in all I am extremely satisfied with my purchase! I can now safely say that a dac & amp is an absolute necessity in any headphone setup.

I will give some more of my thoughts when I get to spend time with the HD600 on the stack.

Picked this up in China earlier this week. A ChiFi remake of the legendary Krell KSA-5. It may not be the real thing but I am impressed.

Let's ignore the price range, what's some suggestions on a mid range good quality sound, comfortable and wireless. I don't mind spending more but I want to see what's available.

I used to be you, loved my wireless gaming headsets. I had a sick pair of turtle beaches that sounded great. Then I got my game zeroes and was like "Why have I done this to myself for so long". It completely changes your game experience. It's night and day. Whether playing an immersive single player or listening for footsteps in pubg.

Then when I got the uDSD, Holy cow! It just brought the game zero's to life. Like I don't I could ever listen without one again. It's like living you life in black and white and then all of a sudden there is colour. Now I'm sitting here like OMG, look at all the shades of red.

I don't know why you specifically want wireless, maybe you are a console gamer and chill on the couch. But if it's for pc gaming, I see no reason to go wireless, other than being able to keep listening to your friends talk shit while you are in the kitchen making coffee or on the shitter.

If you don't want to commit, maybe try find one of the guys that stay close to you and have him round, buy some beers and game with his gear for an hour or 2. I don't see you going back.

The nice thing as well is if you went for something like a gsp 500/600 without a dac, you would immediately have a huge difference over wired. Then you could save and get a dac if you wanted.

This is from my experience, I'm a audionoob and definitely don't have the greatest ear.

my wireless solution was the AKG Y50-BT ...... but i'm changing that now - i use a Fiio BTR3 bluetooth amp connected to any of my wired headphones - this allows the receiver to connect wirelessly to whatever source i have with more potential formats catered for ie in effect the BTR3 is compatible with SBC, AAC, AptX, AptX (HD), AptX (LL). LDAC and LDHC so i can receive any of those codecs and still play it back to any headphones

and the BTR3 also has a type C connector available so i can also use wired sources and use it like a USB DAC as well and while it isn't as good as something like a uDSD it is more than capable with entry level earphones like the KZ ZSN pro IEMS that i have

nothng wrong with the AKG Y50-BT though - it is a very good sounding headphone and fun to listen to - the only downside is that it is a little heavy but you get used to it and at R1500 it is a bargain

EDIT : i just forgot to point out though that all my solutions are for music playback - gaming is not a priority in my list since i stopped gaming a long time ago ..... so all my headphones are more for music than for gaming and surround usage

Oof...dangerous to see Durban on something like that. Much safer if it says CPT or JHB/PTA. Harder to purchase things on a whim if there needs to be shipping.

Pretty sure your location says Durban, KZN :)

I'm so happy most items are in JHB though... If more carbies were in Pretoria my wallet would not be able to keep up.

About 3 songs into my first session on the R2R11 I bought from Deviation.
Was flipping between it and my JDS O2 and Odac and difference is palpable.

The o2 which I always though was cool sounds a bit muted in comparison.
Feels weird to run in low gain mode, and only with about 40% vol.

Still need to try gaming on it, but so far music is awsome.
