So I'm looking for a streaming device like and android tv box, for Netflix and DSTv Now.

Any advice on what and where to get??

Thanks in advance!

just don't go to cheap.

the cheapies mostly run old android builds that cant be upgraded and will stop working with certain newer apps.

You have to sideload Netflix so wouldn't use that.
+1 on the Xiaomi
No you don't anymore. The newer lit boxes can run it.

My parents have, let's call it the V1, of the little boxes. It cant update, you can download Netflix but it won't run. I have the, let's call it V2, of the lit box and it has no problem running Netflix from the app store.

The options are the chrome cast, lit box and Xiaomi mi box.

The Mi Box does not have a ethernet port and the remote is better quality.

Like others have said, don't go cheap. The devices listed has the Google Cast capability and that, too me, is the most important and the feature I use most. You can cast Netflix, Showmax, DSTV and YouTube.

I bought the very first revision of the Lit box (the day it was released) and I was forced to install the widevine level 1 application from Netflix directly (instead of the shop). The latest update to the Lit box allowed me to download the full HD version directly from the google play shop. Would definitely recommend it, works quite well for dual band wifi, Netflix, Showmax, DSTV Now, Twitch, Google Movies, Google Music, and Youtube!

Not Sure what your budget is,

Skyworth 49" UHD tv goes for around R6,999 and runs Android TV - DSTV Now runs smoothly on this and the price vs quality is quite unbeatable (note there's no HDR on this set)

N.B.: I do not work for Skyworth nor will i get any benefit from promoting this product!!!!

just a fan :)

I'm using the X96 Mini (2Gb) android box. It is cheap but it runs Netflix, DSTV now, Showmax, YouTube and kodi.

The guys that have the Xiaomi Mi Tv - Does it support HDMI ARC? Does your TV Turn-on when you power on the device?

I have been a LONG time Roku fan but the lack of DSTV is a bummer and especially now that UFC is shown on DSTV - I use my Laptop to cast the DSTV Chrome Tab video to my Roku

I assume you mean the Mi Box, then yes it does, mine switches on the TV and changes the source on the TV and my AVR.

Thanks alot guys, will definitely look at the LIT box and the Xiaomi!

I'm sure it's perfectly grand for offline viewing from a HDD and so on but not for streaming, it has a 3 year old version of Android, not even Android TV, it's not Google certified which means I doubt it runs DSTV Now and if it does Netflix it will be limited to SD unless you run a modified APK.

You're really doing yourself a disservice if you buy anything not running Android TV.

What this guy said.

I also will stress again that having the cast capability (only on Google certified boxes) changes lives for the better.

The MyGica boxes, last I checked, cost as much as the MiBox from Xiaomi (top tier at least) and at the time it was advertised it didn't support DSTV or Netflix (this was last year).

You can bypass that by sideloading apps, but it's risky and not worth it for the same amount of money or even less.

Someone mentioned Apple TV, I have a 4th gen and it doesn't support DSTV, it is also twice the price. Not saying it's a horrible device, it's just EXTREMELY limited in SA with local account.

When was the last time you checked for DSTV on your Apple TV?
