They changed the monetization rules a few months ago so that you can enable Super Thanks at 500 subs. So once I hit 500 subs the notification popped up that I can apply to be a partner, accepted the terms and later that same day I was approved. There have been people that donated via Super Thanks but now at 1000 subs I am eligible for ad revenue, which I just went and enabled right now!
