will this kill retail games ?

The only problem is the the quality of internet in SA and of course certian game won't be playable as they get released on steam and GFWL

No for s.a but people in uk and usa will probably use this with there 50mb lines, hope to get into the beta and test it a bit etc
 
Who cares if it kills retail gaming? If all games used Steam, or a service similar to it, it could lessen the amount of piracy that is happening, which is a lot more harmful to the industry than not being able to buy a disc. I hate Ubisoft's DRM implementation, don't get me wrong, but services like steam make it possible for gamers to enjoy new and affordable games with minimal schlep. Just look at the summer camp specials? They had relatively new games going for as little as R35. If you can afford a PC that is able to play games, you can afford paying R35 for a game.

A bit more on topic though, I doubt this will work in countries like ours. Our internet is just not up to scratch when compared to first world countries. Also, even if we had the capacity, I wouldn't really enjoy a rental service as much as actually owning a game. What's more, I somehow find it hard to believe that the major publishers would be happy with a system like this?
