So when people think of Wharfedale I doubt many think of high end speakers as majority of the Wharfedales we see in South Africa are from their lower to midrange lineup.
These Opus 2 speakers are top of the range Wharfedale speakers, retail price in 2010 was around $4000 (USD) for these Opus2-2 speakers.

A 3 way speaker consisting of 4 drivers:
  • 1" Textile Dome Tweeter
  • 3" Textile Dome Midrange
  • 2x 8" Kevlar Woofers

The drivers all make use of neodymium magnets, super linear drivers and if you google for pictures of the drivers you will see that the tweeters & midrange have some big heatsinks on them as well. The woofers are separate from the midrange & tweeter in the enclosure.
Although these speakers make use of 8" woofers, the curved enclosure along with the beautiful Piano Black finish really do well to make these feel like smaller and slimmer speakers.
Sound quality is great, the midrange is uncluttered, dynamics are fantastic and with the dual 8" woofers in a ported enclosure do well without a subwoofer.
These speakers image well, even in my room without any sound treatment and bad accoustics. They image far better than my other speakers which have some decent Seas drivers.

The Good
  • Beautiful Piano Black Finish
  • Rare speakers, chances of you stumbling upon another set is quite slim.
  • Great sound
  • High end speakers, for a bargain price!

The Bad
  • I do not have the grilles for these speakers
  • One enclosure was damaged in transit (Barely noticeable chip in the finish & scratch on the metal - see pictures below)
  • Will raise your expectations of speakers going forward

I personally feel the speakers look better without a grille anyways and the chip and scratch are barely noticeable and do not bother me at all.
After all, speakers are there to sound good and these don't only sound great but they look good too!

Still available and open to reasonable offers.

As great as these sound, hard to justify keeping both speakers and I want to build a new set. Would be a waste storing them in my garage.
