Unethical Mercedes Authorized dealership

What bike are you looking to get?
I live across from Ducati in Cape Town, and would really love one (Panigale V2) but they are kak expensive for a bike

But with the amount I'm looking at losing on the car, I definitely won't get one.

I'll keep my eyes out for a CBR or R6 once I sell the car...

Is the bike meant to be a toy or a second mode of transport?
Just asking cause those superbikes are amazing track toys but are impractical for every day use.
Can be done, many do it, but there are definitely better options for the purpose.

 I loved my previous CBR 600 as a daily to the office via the N1 in CT.

This however will be a "weekly" or "fortnightly" and couple track days and short trips on weekends. I work from home, so it's just another mode of transport for "fun".

Yes, I have a need...for speed ;)

Second hand R6 pricing is hellish as of recent years. I remember buying my 09 R6 for 62k few years back, putting 20k km on it and selling it for more than what I paid. CBR600RR at this point is definitely better value. You can almost get a CBR1000RR for the price some people want for their R6's.

* would highly recommend getting a full dekra test done when purchasing any vehicle
Dekra does not mean much nowadays. I can get a clean report for a wheelbarrow depending on the color of my money.

Thank you for the info so many companies take us for a ride knowing we cant afford big laywers like them a good platform is needed to expose them i remember the story of a man who put a billboard on the M1 and nailed them
This is how business works in SA.. and they then get all offended when you tell them to their faces to try and not take you for a ride.

Agreed, hence why the buyer should get this done at their expense.

Hit and hope as with most things in SA, but in my experience, the full technical test has been quite comprehensive.

Although, I dont personally rely on a dekra test - it would be more applicable to individuals that cant view the car or not that clued up.

Regardless, one should never purchase a vehicle without conducting proper tests.

ie. Viewing the car thoroughly in person - or have someone trustworthy view on your behalf. Preferably with a car scanner - Carly works well to pick up on faults and mileage ( really surprising how many cars have "corrected" miles these days)

And getting what ever information the Manufacturing Dealer has - service history, comments, etc.

Dekra test documented some scratch marks on my car but nothing about two panels that are clearly a different shade to the rest of the car - - I also spoke to the dealership the car was serviced at and they too assured me that there's no bodywork done that they know of.
The problem is - at the time of purchase I could only go look at the car at night and never noticed the colour difference till a week or so later.
Now one of those panels' clearcoat is blistering and I'm fuming but original seller left the country.

When dealers acquire new stock - they usually send it to their mechanics to check out a few basic things...oil level, coolant level, etc.

the cars then visits a panel shop or one of those on-site repair people who pull out what ever dents it has and spray some of the scratches...followed by a polish.

At this point, the cars are looking showroom ready, and can even catch out people with trained eyes.

but after a couple washes, the polish is gone, and the shoddy paintwork starts to show and fail. By this point...it is usually too late.

Sad, but that is the current state of affairs.

Correct 9/10 car sales people are like Matilda's Dad.

The thing here, which pisses me off is that the car was under warranty/service plan when I bought it - so you think that it's good.

I'm not panel beater - so I check there's no dings and scratches and one door is not dark silver and the rest light silver...

Big mistake on my part to trust an Authorized dealer and think they will stick to Mercedes quality!

The whole 600 is a bit tits up because they're not producing them anymore.

I'm small so a 600 is perfect for me :ROFLMAO: I'd like to see the price the new R7 comes in at

I have seen these, but I want to get rid of the car first :)

When you bought the car, they transferred the Motorplan on to your name ?

Im not sure how Merc works, but I'll give an example of what bmw does below:

Buy a second hand BMW with motorplan (even if you buy from BMW), they will have to carry out a proper inspection (they literally check everything) its the guys job to find something wrong with the car so that they can terminate the Motorplan. If there is paintwork on the car that is not up to standard, they will cancel the plan. If the work was done by BMW, they will put the Motorplan on hold, send the car back to the repair centre and only when it meets the quality standard, shall the Motorplan be transferred on to your name.

If Merc did said inspection, you could potentially fight them on the quality of the work, and get them to atleast rectify it.

* side note, buying a bmw from anyone other than BMW, when the seller says Balance of Motorplan, that does not apply to the buyer, until BMW does an inspection. Calling the dealership to check if the car is still has its Plan active wont suffice. Heard of many horror stories where BMWs are modded or have shoddy work done ...and it is only picked up when the new owner tries to transfer the MP after purchase...here again...it is usually too late for any recourse

Friends of mine were in a similar boat, they tried to sell a VW Polo to GetWorth, on inspection the car had been in a pretty serious accident.
GetWorth would not accept the car due to previous accident damage.

After some kicking and screaming the dealer offered to buy the car back as part of a kak trade in offer... they were basically paying a fair chunk less than trade for the car trying to pass the loss onto my friends. Friends went the ombudsman route, after many months, they ended up selling it back to the dealer for basically the same kak price they were originally offered and bought a Kia.

To echo all the comments in this thread, car salesmen/dealers/mechanics/etc are all fucken snakes.

Yeah 😤 well, they done fucked themselves. If Merc don't have a solution, I'm going to hold a poll on what designs to wrap my car and park it outside their sales office (Lucky I work from home, so it can sit there all day every day :))

And then I'll look at going the billboard route outside the dealership I bought it from, thinking bright lumo yellow or pink so it turns heads, and says something like "kakkest customer service", "we sell damaged cars without disclosing it" etc etc.

Something like this, with black writing:

Damn ya must say impressed getworth they do really check the car, sold 2 to them so far and bought 1 so far. Fixed all issues on car they sold me, ok some stuff should been really checked before they sold it to me lol

But ya they even bought my ford kuga which was basically a braai.

Remind me of this guy, the plan you have with your car :p

I plan on doing something this too, outside the dealer on the busiest road, in lumo colors too.

I'm going next level Karen if these guys want to screw me over 50k and try get away with it :)

Any suggestions for the billboard?

QR code might be easier than an actual web url - any press coverage will be able to scan the QR code

Update:

The dealership says "sorry" it's been too long.

Mercedes say "Sorry, not our problem"

Time to be a Karen. Can anybody recommend a place in Cape Town that will do Decals for my car?
