Hey guys,

Here is the thing. I'm without any gpu at the moment. I'm dying to get something so I can get back into my games. But I'd have to save for a couple of weeks still to get what I REALLY want. So would it be silly to buy something now, so I can at least game, and then add another card later in CF? Or should I just suffer for another while?

Suffer for a bit and get what you want.

Can I jump in on this as well.

I have a R9270x at the moment. I am unsure as to weather to get a second R9270x / HD7870 / R7370x and a bigger PSU (630w)
Or a single better GPU R9280x / R290x / One of the newer R93xx series

Single GPU. Dual GPU support seems to be shoddy lately.

But it looks badass AS F!

but i agree DX12 was supposed to be some SLI/XFire god send that would stack ram and give us great performance and all it did was sleep with us and never call us again :'(

Least the 9xx series does SLI really great.

Ive had 2x R9 270x and they are boss. 290x performance right there.. And i ran that on a 620watt psu.

What psu do you have?

CF and SLI are a lot better than what they use to be. Just do it.

I have been SLi'ing / Crossfiring since 8800GT's / 4870's came out and always got awesome results.
There seems to be a general opinion on carb that this is not a good option vs 1 single GPU i don't agree with that.

Truth of the matter you can get higher performance than that 1 single GPU for much less by using two cheaper gpu's in crossfire/SLi
This has always been the case.

Two GTX 970 in SLi kill a Titan X and do so for much less than what a Titan X cost

Are you being serious? R9 290X performance?

Yes, they really performed well. Only limitation is the 2gb frame buffer.

I had an issue with a 7990 with its 2x3Gb frame buffer not being enough for the horsepower of the card.

But at 1080p it performs really well.

Ask yourself, do you want a girl with only one boob? Cuase single gpu setups is like a 1 boob chick.

Wish i had funds for a 2nd 780😢

But what about if its the most perfect boob in the world? And the rest of them are skanky boobs?

Oh and to remain on topic, I had 2x 270x's. when they were first released. They bench well but in game did not feel as lekker as a R9-280x nevermind a R9-290...

Lol! I got a few of the later ones. Didnt have any issues regarding stuttering and frames literally doubled in most situations

Before those i had 2x 6870s' and they stuttered like crazy

HolyCowImAnoOb Have you ever used 2 different brands of cards? Asus / Gigabyte with the same GPU

I have run Asus and Sapphire together...no issues except power draw was too much. 5850 can be hungry

I have used two brands before. and they worked well. cant remember what setup it was.

5850's both Asus worked great. i didnt notice stuttering on those.
But my 6870's were both asus and noticed stuttering
R9 270x were both sapphire smooth as babys bottom/

I ran 2 x 7850s and ran flawlessly most times but other times severe stutter. Read that it could be related to CPUs with a lot of cores. Was running Xeon at the time.

Changed to 280x and loved the difference...when they talk about smoothness its like tasting super expensive and rare whiskey or cigar...you cant question the smoothness. LOL

I'v run 5850 CF, 6870 CF, and 560ti SLI and I must agree it was no where as smooth as a single GPU setup. There where many times where games or drivers were poorly optimized and I found myself having to disable one card and lower my graphics settings In order to play. I now run single GPU setup and it's been smooth sailing ever since I'd wait and get the card u want!

Go SLI. I have been running 3 way for years. I accept that some few games don't like 3 way but will do 2 way. Very few can't handle 2 way.
But when 3 way works, itbos a thing of awe and Majesty.

Rather get a proper GPU. I tried the crossfire setup and to be blunt.. its kak. Rather get a single gpu and save on heat and your elec bill!

I have an interesting question... At least I think it is :)
What effect will mixing a DX11 and DX12 card in a CF setup have?

XF/Sli scaling largely depends on 1) game in question 2) Driver.

Look up the games and driver change log and go from there :)
