Hey guys,

Have a family member looking to install solar, wants to go off grid. They bought their place with a fixed generator on the property, so they are looking to get Victron quattro set up (to have the generator connected as well as the solar). He is pretty keen on Freedom Won batteries.

Here is the quote, company is SolarBW. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated, basically just want to make sure if the pricing is more or less on point.

Pricing looks to be fair for what they are wanting to install, but for that money I would rather go with a 16kw Deye / Sunsyk, still be able to have generator input and be able to throw on some more / better panels - Longi 575w or some JA 550w.

Main question here, as a Victron Qualified installer and as someone who has had to sort out a lot of kak from other installers who claimed they knew how to install Victron but dont (I have seen MPPTs not communicating with other and the Inverter sending battery power to the grid and no Cerbo or CCGX etc)

Is the installer competent in Victron installs? Do they have the certs? Looks like they are buying their vicron stuff from Segen solar and not Get Off Grid (They are cheaper than segen and have a way wider range of Victron equipment for the install, but you need a victron or PV green card to open up an acc with them)

Please ask them for references for other Victron installs.

Any Tom, Dick and Harry can install a Sunsynk/Deye or Axpert inverter, but it takes someone with a brain who spent a lot of time on Victron study materials to successfully install Victron equipmeny

Hey man, jumping in on the side here, I have recently purchased a Victron inverter off of a friend who upgraded to a bigger size.

How specialized does an installer have to be to work with Victron?

I am trying to avoid ending up with my finger up my arse if I use someone to install who doesn't know what they are doing.

I have a Victron inverter and brand new Blue Nova lithiums but just need to get someone to do the install for me now.

Just ask them for references.

Then speak to those customers and see what issues they had.

Ideally before you mount anything, you will want to lay everything on the ground and connect everything up (BMV, CCGX, Inverter, MPPTs) and see if they communicate with each other and troubleshoot from there

You definitely don’t wanna be a hero and mount everything and realise something isn’t talking to another thing and then take it all down and re mount the system again

Thanks for the input man. Appreciated.

The problem at the moment (in the small shitty town I currently live in) is actually getting someone decent and qualified around to my place to install the stuff.

Have waited for 1 month + on a waiting list for the one company and they still fu**ing me around.

(Sorry @Assassin9909 for hi-jacking this thread. I will stop posting now hahah!)

@RunGunBro No worries man

Thanks for the input on this thread ill forward this to him.

@Phoenix Energy the installer is SolarBW, apparently, they are affiliated as approved installers with the banks etc. This particular installer apparently has about 20 years' experience but I will still suggest to him to get his own references and see.

Two things jump out at me
1 System seems a bit small to be off grid.
2 There is no qoute for earthing, which if done properly can be R10k+ depending on soil conditions. Does the installer include this for mahala, is it included somehwere or does he doesn't install according to SANS? How will he then issue a valid COC if its not according to SANS?

Yip. That's not an off-grid quote unless the guy's living in a place that gets way above average sunlight hours and never any grey days. Victrons overrated I reckon. Too modular and the quote is testament to the downsides of how the modular costs pile up. Were it me I'd rather go for 2x True Hybrid inverters, throw more money for bigger or more batteries and a bunch more panels.

In for a penny in for a pound.

i agree with @Qui_Illustrati if your realy going off grid victron would be a better pick but do they realy need a 10 kva? if you have a genny pls note that freedow one does not cover any cost if you dead sart the system on a site if the dc bus is not charged ps if the battery breakes atleast 30 days wait time ..... ask me i was the nice guy wanting to help a person that didnt buy it from me on the quote the mppt has room for 8 more pannels pls note that they dont like shade .

The Multi RS Solar 48/6000 is a 48V 6kVA Inverter/Charger this one will be a much better option to look at pls note standalone only https://www.victronenergy.com/upload/documents/Datasheet-Multi-RS-Solar-EN.pdf

ps deye sunsynk lux exta cant charge the dc bus if the systems switched off from genny
