Car has the dreaded P0420 DTC for over 2 years, needed to have some work done, told them to cut out the cat while its there as the turbo needed to come out anyway, hoping car will now have more power to burn rubber on the road.

I'm no thermodynamics expert but it looks as if the pipe precat gets kak hot which would indicate a blockage and has a different colour compared to post cat.

Sure, cutting the cat wont stop the engine light coming on and P0420 logged but that can be done from editing the ECU later on.

Is the cat really out of the bag or is it in the bag?

In the Bin as MCM would say

Does it sound any different at the end of the exhaust?

Question is irrelevant if you did a modification on the exhaust same time.
Question is irrelevant as I did a modification on the exhaust at the same time. Removed the middle resonator but kept the back one. It's now 6735% louder than I wanted :D

@Areola Grande Weird question, does it smell bad by the exhaust, I've read online that some people say it stinks now that the cat is not present.

There was a smell initially, however I believe that is due to a coating they put on the metal when fabricating the downpipe. That burnt off after a brief period though.

Beyond that and a slightly richer smell due to the new tune, no weird smells that've I've noticed, no.

To be fair, I haven't been huffing fumes though. Will pay my brother to huff them and let you know if there are any smells / adverse reactions.

I got the car back today, my gawd, it's so much better. Before at around 3.5-4k RPM it would have 1 slight jerk and then continue revving.

Now it just revs no problem and there is a nice little turbo whistle when revving from idle.

They said the cat wasn't blocked at all but I beg to differ. 🤷‍♂️ Will get the cat insides tomorrow and will check for myself.

Question because some of this sounds all too familiar, what car?

Probably related to my issues, I think I possibly cooked my turbo/exhaust because I machined a manual boost controller at work, and I think I might have an intake / boost leak, so with the manual controller hitting the right psi the turbski was working overtime (it was red, not supposed to be red at like 10psi... but nooo trust me I'm an engineer XD). Have reverted to the electronic controller asap after that XD

Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost, doubt we have the same car as my wastegate is vacuum controlled.

Yup, indeed different car, but it's still good to know.

Mine is also vacuum controlled, it just uses an electronic solenoid to choose how much of the vacuum (or I think it is actually some of the boost pressure itself) is sent to the wastegate actuator.

Good news!

Is it running perfectly? After I did my pipe it wasn't running 100% which was part of the reason I got it tuned.

Mine seems fine, I only took it for a 15 min drive. What issues did you have?

Seemed like the fueling was slightly off, bit of a dip in torque at about 3k and again at about 5k. The new map smoothed that all out.

You will not be able to determine if fueling is off by the feel of the car when driving.

You need a data log. That turbo spins at over 240k rpm. Over speeding will result in shorter life. Almost a 100k rpm more than the turbo in my car that makes 300KW

You'll notice the word "seemed" which implies that I wasn't sure but that's what it felt like.

Or I can check the average fuel consumption, its normally at 6-6.2L/100km, will reset it tonight when filling up.
