Terrible time to buy a GPU

This is nothing. After the great miming crash of 98 it was impossible to find a a good quality mime that wasn't all shagged out and dusty. I tell you don't trust anyone that says a mime comes in a box, that shits invisible and doesn't add anything to the sale.

After the previous mining crash I picked up my current card for about R2500 - at the height of the GPU shortage in the past 24 months the going rate for the same card was around R6K.

I have no doubt that now that mining is unprofitable prices will come crashing down again.

Vega 56 I'm guessing
Or GTX 1070 Ti

I have a weird feeling these miners won't take this shit lightly - they'll figure out a way to get profit before selling hardware (last-ditch effort)
Some are selling though and I'm not complaining cos I only need(ed) 1 for a reasonable price

Or even a RX580 8gb

I think this time miners managed risks better and will see less of a fire sale compared to last time.

Same as last time, many will try to hold out until they get tired of seeing the cards continue to devalue and will eventually cut their losses.

I would like to upgrade but, since the games I play don't need cutting-edge graphic capability, I have a price point in my mind that I won't exceed - I'm happy to wait patiently.

Yep - RX580 - I was wrong about the price though - just checked my archives and I paid R1500 for the card in March 2019 and it's still going strong.

I was one of those f#cking moegoes selling RX 580's for R1,250 and R1,300 mxm - 1 month after they sold out the prices were 3k-4k

The way things are going, never is a good time to buy a graphics card. I've been told (only by one vendor, but still) to hold tight for RTX 30 price increases thanks to the Rand going for a ball.

iGPU FTW
Death to all GPUs

Thanks for the inside info our PC mole

On the other hand, when has the Rand ever not been in shit?
I'm not talking 60's and 70's
As long as I've been alive the Rand has been on a downward trend

When I was in primary school you could buy a pie, coke and foxi nax for R10
Now with R10 you can probably afford only 1 x Dunhill gwaai and chew the match for snacks

With GPU mining starting to become unprofitable and new GPU releases on the horizon. Right now seems like an aweful time to buy a gpu even though the prices seem reasonable. Even on this site we're starting to see the dump of mining GPU's with people selling 12 of them at a time and whatnot. So I say hold the line and till more of them flood the used market and the new GPU's drop so second hand prices fall even further. That's all
Is this a troll account? Asking for a friend.

Think of it this way, now is a terrible time, next will very likely be an even worse time..... there is no way prices are ever going back as low as they were before.

In comparison to a year ago, now is an awesome time to buy a GPU. Just putting things in perspective here.

With RTX 4080 costing about R30k, these prices on the 3000 series are good.
