Could I ask for some suggestions of reliable brands to look at for ssd's with dram at reasonable cost?

The intended usage will have me opening a lot of smallish files, making dram seem like an essential requirement.

I can get by with say 240gb ones, and then purchase an external for backups as required.

I should say I am looking at 2.5" form factor.

Edit: I am now unsure whether this is in the correct forum.

Samsung 870 Evo, I got a 2TB, really happy with it.

It's a probably a few hundred more than the other crap on the market but it's worth it.

For backup, always a mechanical drive. SSD's are and will always be shit for storage. The amount of ssds i have to replace (not elcheapos, but many WD, Samsung and naturally the cheapies)Some older Intel drives i havent had any issue with but mileage will differ. I prefer mechanical drives for storage.

I ended up getting a 860 evo and a 870 evo, with an external for backup(which I believe is mechanical).

Got two 250 GB's. For my purposes I don't require large storage space, just fast stuff.

A 2tb ssd might be the dream, but it ends up being prohibitively expensive.

Larger SSDs are often faster and with better endurance.

Also, consider the cost per gig - I find that 1tb drives have the lowest cost per gig, even compared to smaller capacity drives.

I had a prejudice against the WD Green drives from back in the day before SSDs were a thing as they were slow as fuck.

Guess that prejudice was right to ignore the Green SSD range too.

I’ve got a WD SN850X 2tb which I got on special during Black Friday and it’s the ducking tots.
