So I bought a Sony ZV-1 off marketplace a few months back. Worked like a charm.

Today it goes into pink screen mode, lens starts opening and closing on its own, just overall unresponsive. The camera basically goes bonkers.

After letting it cool down, I try using it again, and its responsive for the first few seconds then just goes back to being defective.

I have contacted Premium Brands, and they say that Sony cameras only have a 1 year factory warranty.
I do not have the original invoice, so I dont know if its a year since purchase or not (they will not honor a factory warranty without proof of purchase).

Im at my wits end right now. Premium Brand says there is a R250 inspection fee to quote me, and if I accept the quote then the fee gets offset.
The issue I have, is that I dont know if this is a R200 problem or a R10 000 problem.

Also, I feel a little done in by Sony. As the camera is perfectly fine one day, then it randomly decides to drop me the next.
Would have been more of a Sony fanboy if Sony acknowledged that its their fault and replaced whatever at their own cost.

Any advice on what I can do from here? Or if you know of any camera repair people that can assist and not charge me an arm and a leg?
This is my primary camera for shooting YouTube videos, so production has stopped till I figure out something else.

ooof that website... hopefully that means their skills lie elsewhere like in camera repairs :D
Haha I was also skeptical after the buttons are not responsive. Eventually found an email to enquire from.

If any other Carbies can point me in the right direction, I’d be incredibly thankful.

I see quite a few similar issues online, maybe contact sony and see if its a factory fault

Any idea how I go about it? I contacted Premium Brands (Sony’s only distributer in SA) and they were not helpful at all, basically saying that if it’s older than a year since purchase, it’s not their problem.

I don't think they even have a website but they were recommended to me and I've seen them recommended elsewhere, Sunray Photographic Services in Linden.

CameraTek I think also maybe do repairs.

Premium Brands gives decent customer service.

Generally all camera repairs follow that same structure of a fee to inspect and quote. Same with DJI drone repairs recently for myself.

Alternatively take it into one or two camera stores; a lot of them do repairs internally.

I would personally send it to Premium Brands but get a second and/or third opinion first.

Let me make some calls. Thank you bud

Just wish I had some sort of understanding of the price of repairs. I know with most electronics, its cheaper to replace than to repair!

100%.

It’s frustrating because you owe money to them before even getting an indication of cost of repair. Also, they won’t give you your camera back until you pay the fee 😭

Rarely anything is cheap in the photography space.

Read on a few forums that it could be moisture - very very unlikely, only been used indoors (member suggested).
Read on a separate forum could be a loose connector between sensor and lcd - possible just dont know how/why (also member suggested).

Watched a YouTube video where a guy had similar issues, his was under warranty - they replaced "power operation, main flex and CPU".

WTF
