Yup, in a moment of utter stupidity and clumsiness, I spilt a full cup of coffee all over my desk on Monday.

R.A.T. 9 in sy mo3r in. Coffee blew the CCD sensor to hell - and no amount of alcohol or cleaning of the board / sensor could save it. Insurance claim has been sent in.

What to replace it with? Let it be known, I absolutely LOVED that R.A.T. 9, and am very much leaning towards just getting another one - but would entertain alternatives if someone can give me good reasoning and feedback.

And no, I'm not inclined to take you seriously if your only point of reference for a mouse is the Microsoft Wireless Desktop 3000 or a Logitech MK120, but the mouse you're recommending "looks cool". I need hard actual user / gamer opinions as to a suitable replacement for my now-deceased RAT...

PS - let it be known, a major reason why I'm considering another R.A.T. 9, is because I'd then have spare batteries and palm / finger rests in stock for it.

kry 'n razer mamba. ek het 1 gehad en dis 'n mal muis. maar vir so duur muis wat dit was het ek dit verkoop en my ou prestigio ultimate gaming mouse uit die kas uit gehaal. en wat n wyse besluit. die mamba is 'n goeie muis. net soos die rat 9 maar nog nooit in my hele lewe het n muis so lekker in my hand gepas soos die ou rooi muis nie. ek het tot n backup so as die 1 breek is ek uit gesort :p

Well first off doesnt insurance excess cost more than a new mousta??

Also my reference point is a MS Wireless Desktop 3000 and i once had an MK120, think it was a logitech... Anyways the MS is AWeSOME

RAT = POOOOOO from personal experience, had Rat 7 and 9. The batteries on the 9 were enough to drive any man crazy. 2-3 days and the rat wont wake up the batteries were also ULTRA annoying to swap. I had an MS x8, well still have 2 actually. My brother uses one and the other one lies in the cupboard, very good mouse, battery life is very good, just gets interference from wireless routers its BADDDDD!!!

I now have the G700, battery life is extremely good, response and comfort levels are at the top. The one feature that makes it i think is the ability to turn it into a normal wired mouse with the cable that comes packaged with the mouse. Not that its been necessary but you always get those whinner babies that claim wireless = lag so you can keep them quiet as well.

All in all, go with a rat 9 you have spare batteries and palm/finger in stock:p its a no brainer :D

all that I can say is

If you like how the mouse feels play and performs replace it whit exactly the same one
I'm on my 3rd Logitech MX500 Optical Mouse

And yet, it won't make you any better at games.

People forget the most basic thing when it comes to peripherals. Get what SUITS your wallet and your preference. No mouse or keyboard will make you any better at a game.

Phil, ek sou Steelseries voorstel maar ek is 'n hardcore gamer en ek dink jy soek wireless so dis kinda silly.

If it was wireless, I would go the mamba route. If you can handle wired, steelseries sensei FTW. Ordered mine a couple of days ago after trying it out. And my oh my, it is freaking awesome.

Just like the over priced Steelseries stuff won't make you a better gamer.
Its not the point, he asked for a recommendation, that's what I am getting and I think it looks awesome and from what
I have read about it and user experience tells me it'll be a great mouse.

On a side note, Mice can make a huge difference in gaming.
Especially when you're able to fine tune DPI settings.

Did I recommend a Steelseries Product? Please show me where?

My point was, he should get something that suits him (within budget, personal preferences, availability and features) NOT what other people think are good products based on features or looks alone.

My Steelseries Diablo 3 (based on the XAI) is a very plain mouse but it's perfect for what I need it for.

A good mouse can give you a slight advantage in FPS games.

Edit: @Senshi, OP asked for recommendations. If he was going to choose what suited himself best as you stated above he might as well have left this thread?

Im pretty sure that translates into "I would recommend"

Anyway who cares. Bawb buy what you want.
Its obvious we aren't allowed to share our opinions anymore lol

ATI, really. Everytime I see you post an opinion you end up starting getting snarky and full of yourself. Read the full sentence Senshi posted.

He said he would recommend it, but Billy wants wireless. So he wont.

I've got the RAT 9 as well which I've already RMA'd once due to a the laser going crazy and its doing it again, so will be sending it back... again.

So ATM not the biggest RAT fan, but do take a look at the RAT MMO Cyborg M.M.O. 7 Gaming Mouse

Yes he did ask for a recommendation and I couldn't make one out of my personal experiences as I take gaming far more seriously than the rest of you. What I use/need my peripherals for is different from you, hence I couldn't make a recommendation. I never said you lot can't make a recommendation, rather that you are giving recommendations based off personal experiences. Keeping that in mind, Billybob shouldn't just take a mouse cause somebody says it's good, he has to keep his own preferences etc in mind.

I don't understand, what's so difficult to understand about my opinion?

@ AtiBoy

If you want to be childish and argumentative and adopt a sand pit attitude, just let me know. I can easily take the gloves off dude. I'm not impressed with your attitude.

I think the guy i sold my Rat 7 or 9 had to RMA it a little while after receiving it...

Not to poke fun at anyone but how can anyone recommend anything OTHER than based off personal experience and personal knowledge?

Knowledge obtained from reviews? Just because you haven't worked with a product doesn't mean you can't recommend it? I do it every day?

LOL! How can people get so up in arms about recommendations for a mouse? Seriously people. I am relatively new to these forums, but what I have noticed is that most users are so stubborn in their opinions. There is a wealth of knowledge to be gained from users if one just takes time to read their opinions instead of acting as if they are on a team deathmatch server.

I would still say the steelseries. I dont find it's overpriced at all. R773 for a mouse that is the most comfortable in my hands. I love the RAT, love the look of it, but I have heard, and experienced tracking issues with the laser. Plus when it's lifted from the mouse pad, it takes a few split seconds to register again. Not sure if that problem has been fixed though.

Wireless, the mamba or the logitech. They both have outstanding reviews compared to the RAT 9. But heck, all things come with their own problems.

Strangely enough (being an anti Razer fanboy) I've heard good things about the Mamba except only for maybe it's price.

Yeah, price is slightly on the high side. But you can find it at some places for just over a grand. And that dock is worth the extra R100-R200 bucks. :) Comparing prices, you have the G700 for around R800-R1050, the RAT 9 R1005-R1050, the mamba for R1125-R1218. These from pricecheck.co.za, can pick them all up for more, or for less with some hunting. But taking them all into consideration, I would choose the Mamba. Its basically the same price as the rest. I tried one, but my hand just didn't fit right.

I would truly suggest trying some before you buy. Who knows, a R400 gigabyte could be the perfect match for you. All down to how you work with it, and how it works for you.

Lulz - sorry for opening up that can of worms gents...

Okay, here's the lay of the land... I like the RAT, but the purpose of the thread was to get some suggestions based on personal experiences - from there, I'd read reviews, and then go test each till I find something that really stands head and shoulders above the RAT for me personally... if I don't find something like that, then another RAT it is... Sorted. :)

@Billybob, I had a RAT 7 which died on me and subsequently I RMA'ed and sold. I don't know if any RAT user experienced that sometimes the thumb and pinky part (Got the allen key screws to adjust and change) are prune to static electricity shock, I think thats how I killed my RAT 7... Maybe a design flaw...
