Morning all, the conditions of this card being a give away is that, no shipping is allowed, you need to attempt to fix the GPU - if you fix it you must send some cash to RyanDawg as it is still his GPU after all, if you kill the GPU it is no problem and you need to pay squat. * Their will be selection criteria, the interested party needs to be a trusted member/ able to give their word/ assurance (in some or another form) that they will be truthful and constantly communicate on what they are doing to the GPU as well as if they ultimately manage to fix it.

Can one of the mods confirm if doing the above is fine?

Age: 5 years.
Warranty: Nope.
Packaging: Box, anti-static bag (alles).
Condition: See attached pics.
Reason: Trying to recover costs for the seller.
Shipping: Yip.
Collection: Very much welcomed.
Price: Let's try R300.

The card is buggered, you want someone else to fix it on their time, then pay the seller if the card is fixed? Seems like an odd sort of deal to me.

If someone does take the card and attempt to fix it, here's a tip. I had a 9800GT a couple of years ago that had the exact same issue, lines on the screen. I removed everything from the card, the heat sink, the PCI-E bracket and all the old thermal paste and I baked it face up in an oven, pre-heated to 180 Celsius for 10 minutes. Place 4 foil balls under the card to help with the airflow in the oven. After you've taken it out, let it cool down to room temperature and assemble everything again. Test it and hope for the best. It worked for my 9800 There is a couple of tutorial videos on youtube as well.

Thats all good and usually works, but i wont recommend that method as now you are cooking every component on that gpu. 180 is very high, most high temp caps are rated at 105 degrees.

Yip, the cost of attempting to fix the card will more than likely be below the value of the GPU if it can be fixed.

This is why I started the thread, as neither myself or the seller possess this type of knowledge and are not willing to try due to this fact.

Or, you know, the card is worth close to nothing now, but you want to claim its future value based off of expertise/skill, and someone's luck in fixing it now?

I do get your point - I did say that I would try this out and the whole logic of the idea did seem a bit shaky to me.

Looks like a Vram issue on the card, use a hot hairdryer and focus on VRM and ram chips on teh abck end. Worked for me!

Thanks for the feedback thus far people :)

Some background info: It would appear that the card got damaged in transit via PostNet, sent from me to Dom. It would have been covered under their insurance by Aramex if we had reported the matter to them the very next day or so but between me not rushing Dom to test it and his exam schedule we took too long to confirm that the card was faulty.

I said to Dom I already consider it a write off at this point. I said that if someone on Carb could find value in the card and wants to try their hand at fixing it, they could go for it and throw a couple hundred bucks my way if they fix it. If they wanted to give me R50 for it that is also fine, as I said it's a write off to me. If they bugger it up in an honest attempt to fix it I won't hold them liable.

edit: I understand a person's time is worth something, so they could even give me nothing for the card if they put time into fixing it and are trustworthy Carb forumites. I will leave this to their discretion.

I've discussed with Dom and the graphics card is free to anyone who wants to attempt to fix it. For good measure he will post tomorrow to confirm this.

Hey.

Is it still available? I had some luck with a 8600gt a couple years ago and it still works today. Was thinking I'll send it to Greekking if I get it working.

Guys, whomever gets the card, on the off chance that the card works without any baking and what not, consider throwing R200 to R300 my way, pretty please?

Else if you have to put blood sweat and tears into the thing then consider it gratis!
