Howzit guys,

I would like to buy a S23 from @Umar Moolla , but I want to ship it from Durban to CPT, i'm a bit nervous because I don't want it to be stolen or the truck gets hijacked etc..

Can I ship the parcel and insure it with TCG? It's not a brand new item [ Hence the post ] because I know they don't insure used items?

Any info will be much appreciated. Thanks carbies

TCG will HAPPILY insure it, but they won't pay out.

The only real solutions I've found are the likes of PrestGroup for 3rd party insurance, but that's a monthly contract for GIT.

This is what i'm afraid of, as I don't have the money for another S23 if something happens.

Because it's against their T&Cs.

11.3. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained or implied in this clause 11 (eleven), No assumption of liability by TCG is extended to the following, which includes, but is not limited to: second hand consignments [snip]

Asking for help on Myb... LOL

When you add insurance cover, you do so in accordance with the T&Cs, and they will charge you accordingly.

When it comes time to claim, when you can't provide an invoice from a retailer no older than 7 working days and matching the insured value, they will deny the claim as A) you've gone again'st the T&Cs and B) to prevent fraudulent claims (eg insure a Hisense U60 Lite for R 20k, send it with a flyer attached to the box without further packaging to ENSURE it's stolen in transit, claim R 20k for a R 800 phone).

Maybe one day I'll offer insured 2nd hand deliveries as a service. Maybe.

Apparently Postnet does cover at 3% the insured value. But again, the proof is in the eating of the pudding aka will they pay out if it gets jacked.

Postnet offers it, and I have used them before for this when a buyer asked me to insure an item. They charge 3% of items value.

However, as mentioned already, the proof is in the pudding. I have not yet met anyone who has had to put them to the test.
