Setup help

Hey pXius, mind sharing your settings with me, as I have the same card as yours, and my hashrate is sitting comfortably at 840, temps just a tad over 80c...would like to get above 900 hashrate without breaking the card...I've played around with some of the core/mem settings but I only got up as far as 880...then either cgminer stops working, or my AMD drivers crash...not really sure how to fix this...

I've also got the r9 290 xfx and flashing and memory types aside, i also managed to get <900 KH/s albeit unstable(for now). i had to get concurrency up just to get -I 20 stable at 820KH/s then i overclocked to 1075/1500 and then raised voltages to get it to its current state(will add move voltage and make it stable tonight). now here comes the trick to get from 890 to 900+... raise your fan speed so temps are always below 78... if it goes over that then it starts to drop your hash rate... i now have my gpu fan(stock blower) at 100% and its loud as hell. lol

Rest of the settings are a few posts up.

Hashrate starts to fluctuate because your memory is most probably overheating and the card is throttling. Download HW monitor to check mem temps.

yea will check that when i get home. never noticed that hw monitor could check gpu mem temp either till now :p. never had to worry about it before. problem is that since my gpu fan is on max...i dont have many options to cool it better(can replace the remaining fans to bitfenix/get gpu cooler/watercool)

XFX have really bad quality VRM heatsinks. They use massively inferior quality parts, and should actually be boycotted. You will frequently find yourself throttling.

Ive somehow got it averaging around 900 and only time will tell if its stable. will update tomorrow

Hi guys

Do you know what you can do if the voltage is locked on R9 290's to be able to change it? I have been running mine at about 870-880 KH/s but they have been running with the fan at mostly full speed to keep the temps to mid to high 80 degrees. Was wondering if the voltage change could help? MSI afterburn is not allowing voltage change as its grayed out. The cards are reference cards & have Hynix ram.

Also would you know if its worth trying to flash them to 290x's or changing the voltage by changing the bios?

Run msi afterburner, go into settings change to allow unsupported over clock ranges accept the terms and conditions select over clock with power play support, reboot. This will allow you some overclock room, depending on the bios
Second download the Asus p1 and p3 bioses, backup the old bios from the card, flash the p1 bios. Test again, will give you more overclock room, if it fails to initiate flash the p3 bios. Repeat. There are no 290 reference cards with hardware voltage locks, they are all e locks. Regards

You have to check the mem ids to see if they can be flashed to 290x. I'll post the method tonight

--gpu-vddc x.xxx but it does drop your hash rate for some reason
