Ettienne Groenewald (Impersonating Police Officer)

Hi Guys,

Yesterday I posted a sad sob story about being scammed.

I was scammed for R2000 by the infamous Ettienne Groenewald.

Steam: Steam Community :: despaiRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR_ (last online 17 days ago - obviously created a new account).

Editing this initial post and will post it as the last post (in case people skip the first couple of pages)

EDIT:

I called FNB to file a fraud case and they have confirmed that the Account Number belongs to "Ettienne Groenewald", the usual suspect (as everyone quite obviously knew).

I think we need to create a Sticky with what his voice sounds like, his typing style, etc. - I have several voice notes that I'll be happy to share with Carbonite, including the entire WhatsApp conversation if that might help.

Any way, here are the banking details he used with me, which, coincidentally, has already been reported for fraud - the FNB agent also advised that there are a LOT of Accounts listed under his name:

Bank: FNB
Account Name: DM van Zyl
Account Number: 62605599482
Account Type: Savings
Branch: 250655
Email: dmvanzyl86@gmail.com

Fraud in itself is illegal, but I think impersonating a police officer is a substantially higher offense. I think he's actually gone full retard this time - hopefully the police won't take that matter too lightly.

Any way, I'm going to report this at Durbanville Police Department when I get home from work today - if anyone else has been scammed by him, you're more than welcome to join me - can PM me for details and then grab a beer after (beers on you, obviously, hehe). I plan on getting my money back and I plan on getting him sentenced for whatever crimes he may have caused.

Wish me luck, boys and girls!

I'm almost positive this should not go in to the 'Bad Deals' section if there wasn't a deal done just yet.

Shouldn't be treated differently because it's a police officer
Post the details of the "bad deal" regardless .... Can easily turn out to be ANOTHER Groenewald , their new MO is identity theft .....

Hi there

Just wanted to find out the below

"but have had purchased from Lizzard_ZA and PutriD without any hassle, so whether that's much to go on in terms of trust, then awesome"

How come there is no itrades for these transactions?

well then those two people should give you your itraders as well LizzArD_ZA PutRid and you also xSolmyRx cant you just return those itraders after a deal went down?
I know returning/giving a itrader is extremely technical and takes ages.

Hi Guys,

Before I reveal any confidential information of the accused, I'd just like to know the following:

If anyone has approached them with an EVGA GTX 690 GPU and/or a Corsair GS 700 PSU for sale (asking R2350 for both - R2500 with shipping). Pics have been provided for both products - seem somewhat "legit".

He has sent me a Police ID Card with his name (that he's given to me) on it, along with other SAPS pictures "in the field" and his WhatsApp pic seems to resemble the same person in the Police ID card.

I also have his home address, the police station he works for, and his captain's name.

I've called his Police Station (unless I called the wrong one) and the lady said there is no male officer with the surname he provided me - she's either stupid, or correct.

Just wondering if anyone has been approached by a PM-only offer (brand new user, registered yesterday).

I've read through "Bad Deals" prior and have seen people get scammed from 0 iTraders, so I'm quite possibly still retarded.

Any who, I myself am a 0 iTrader, but have had purchased from Lizzard_ZA and PutriD without any hassle, so whether that's much to go on in terms of trust, then awesome.

Any way, before this becomes too long, I'd just like to know if anyone has experienced something incredibly similar very recently?

Thank you in advance.

If a deal seems too good to be true is usually is. Stay clear and post details.

Also post the user name in the thread please. Pm me his details.

Trying too hard to look legit. Smelly smell...

Deal through trusted members only...no cash or goods reach either till both received

Our deal was not an ad i posted on carbonite. We know eachother personally so in this instance no iTrader is necessary.

I actually just figured out who to do this as you mentioned it - will get on it right away.

The one with PutRid was done outside of the forum, so that probably doesn't count.

As for the "deal has not been done" - I've sent this guy R2000 already - just didn't want to seem like an even bigger moron, but I may as well be honest. :/

I don't want to post any confidential email as yet, as there's a glimmer of hope that this could still be legitimate.

I was just trying to find out if the same ploy has been used on another user so I can prepare myself for the worst.

Thank you.

What is the persons carbonite username you dealt with and did you approach him via a thread of his (share link) or did he pm you?

User: http://carbonite.co.za/members/tyrantt/

He approached me in a PM probably after viewing my post: http://carbonite.co.za/f40/r2000-r2500-gpu-650w-psu-separate-124900/

No forum posts/threads prior (user joined 19/04/2016).

I've got all the necessary information, however, I'm giving him a chance to prove that the trade is legit.

He sent me a Waybill that was SMS'd to him: CCD8463756AD-ZA (being delivered on 14/04/2016)???

He's still replying to me on WhatsApp, sort of.

I'm still giving him a chance, so I still don't really want to have anyone harass him unnecessarily.

F2F only.

i don't know how to even comment on this.. just shocked right now considering how many bad deal posts there have been recently.

I know, right? And I read through at least half of them before today. I'm not looking for sympathy, hell no, purely just validity, but as this guy is new, it's quite obviously a new (hopefully not) scam.

Just figured with the amount of information I received, along with pictures, etc, I may as well gun it (lol, police reference, sort of), but yeah...

I'm still not leaking any of his private information on the forum until I am 100% convinced it's a scam.

Thank you for the concern and sorry to the veterans for flooding your lives with nonsense.

F2F only.

Pretoria != Cape Town.

Also, I think because it was such a great deal, I didn't want to wait any longer.

Again, not looking for sympathy or to be flamed upon, I was purely finding out if a similar story has been used prior and also possibly to help others going forward.

Will clear everything once I'm able to.

I really think an IQ test should be required to join Carb. We making it too easy for scammers and unicorn believers.

Nessi and Sassy want to have a word with you, also some aliens and luke skywalker.

Shipping with 0 iTrader != Common sense.

If a deal is awesome, but there is a risk at all - as there is with all 0 iTraders - the logical thing to do, would be to pass on it.

But judging by you creating this thread, it doesn't sound like you can think for yourself. I don't care if it's harsh, because it seems pretty evident.

I'd be happy to to partake in said IQ test. :p

I submitted a thread 2 days ago, with no responses, so I was obviously too over-eager and gullible when the first person shared some sort of interest in what I was looking for.

Any way, if he blocks me off WhatsApp, etc, then I'll spill all the information (for whatever reason).

Guy PMs buyer with Zero posts, Zero iTrader and sends an identity with a high probability of it being fake. Buyer still proceeds to pay 2k?

Eish bro.

Maybe new comers should only have access to smack talk and bad deals until they reach 50 posts. Seeing all the bad deal threads hopefully will distill some common sense into new comers and weed out those scammers with no posts that prey on the new guys with "wanted" posts.

That seems like a relatively viable solution. However, it's probably not that difficult to achieve 50 posts in "smack talk" and "Bad Deals" (especially). However, probably headed in the right direction.

Ok, so now I will edit my initial post with all of his information, as he hasn't replied (or read) to WhatsApp messages in 2 hours...

Somebody banned tried the same shit with me after I posted in a for sale ad but missed out, when I mentioned that I will transfer cash to a senior member to facilitate sale he backed out claiming that's to much of a mission.

Guess some people are blinded by desperation for a good deal
