Hi everyone

I didn't find anything like this on the group and I did some searches in google as well. Is there a way to block an app from using data (even wifi) on Samsung S23/24 devices? I for instance want Youtube not to be able to use mobile data, which I just check under "data usage" but I have chess etc on my phone which I don't even want to be able to use data as this would mean waiting for video ads, etc and I have rather limited amount of internet that I can use per month. This option was available on my Huawei phones (and it was exceptionally well done on there) and on my Xiaomi as well (less efficient but the option was still there).

Thanks

1. Here's a link to something similar, put data saver on permanently, then you enable individually which apps can use data.
2. You can always block each app you want to restrict, from using background data
3. I recall an app called Tasker, you can do just about anything on that app. Maybe give it a try. I don't think it's available on the android store. You'd get it from the xda forums.

Unfortunately, I doubt that you'll get a straight forward solution like your previous brand if it isn't readily available, each brand has their own pros and cons. You might not want a specific brand anymore, but you miss that one app so dearly 😔😔 good luck.

I'm only on a S22+, but assuming the One UI 6.0 is the same, these are the steps you can take if you want to block Mobile Data from certain apps:
1. Go to Settings
2. Go to Connections.
3. Go to Data Usage.
4. Go to Allowed networks for apps
5. Select the App you want to limit, and choose "Wi-Fi only" to only allow Wi-Fi or "Mobile data only" to only allow mobile data

I was looking for the same thing when I moved from Huawei to Samsung. So easy on the Huawei phones, not available on Samsung.

I found (and am still using) this app: NetGuard

Only issue is that it sometimes causes problems when I try to screencast onto a TV, so then I just turn off the NetGuard and it works fine. Easy and quick to use.

Ahhh... the fun of setting up a new phone to fit my needs exactly. Thanks everyone, I will look into these suggestions!

It was small things such as this that stopped me from using my Xiaomi as 'n daily phone, but I'm giving this one a chance. Thanks again

I remember going down this road when switching from Huawei to One UI.
There is no built in way to restrict both mobile and data for an app using One UI.
Hasn't been since I switched in about 2020 and there still doesn't seem to be anything.
You can limit an app to either mobile or wifi, but can't disable both.

If you turn on data saver permanently then you can select which apps operate while data saver is on.
