Hiya guys

Complete noob here when it comes to PC's. I do have a question though. I would like to turn this old PC into a media center, just for things like YouTube, Kodi etc

I would like some sort of GPU, but it can be old as well. How does one check what Mobo it has, and which sort of GFX card it can handle etc. I'm currently unemployed right now, looking for work, so need this machine to run fine as well. I don't have a big budget right now, but thought instead of selling it or giving it away, I could turn it into something to use. Quite difficult to search for work on my phone etc

This machine power button doesn't work, HDMi port doesn't work, and I think some fans might be dead as well.. so yeh, help a brother out with some advice here, or any old spares you might want to part with. Any jobs welcome as well in Cape Town :(

Hi

I was a bit confused how someone with that much itrader can be a pc noob, but checked your feedback and it seems you mostly deal in phones.

I think the first step would be to download cpu-z and run that. Perhaps share screenshots from all the tabs.

That will provide the information on what motherboard you have, what cpu, what ram...all the basics.

Once that information is available it will be possible to make sensible suggestions.

The power button not working is a bit odd. It might not be connected correctly, or have a wire loose, or a mechanical problem. It is not insurmountable.

HDMI port not working is not that big a deal if another port does work, and if you get a discrete gpu, then that doesn't matter.

The dead fans might be a problem if your resulting airflow is not good enough as that might lead to further damage down the line.

Hey bud,

Is this the PC I sent to you a few years ago? If so, it should be perfect as a media PC. You wouldn't need anything fancy GPU-wise, a GTX 1030 would be fine and they're cheap as chips.
