Hi peeps,

My father started with video editing etc, but money is pretty tight. His laptop doesn't handle Davinci too kindly. It takes about 1.5 hours for a 2.5Gb .Mov to render. He has a old desktop pc aswell with a Core 2 Quad in and I was thinking to upgrade the CPU, Mobo, RAM and slap in a m.2 drive.

My question is, has anyone here have a Ryzen 3200G CPU? And would you mind testing Davinci Resolve on your setup for me please? Or if anyone can please help with feedback regarding the matter.Do you think it would be enough for now given the situation where budget is pretty tight?

Hopefulle his online course kicks off and then I can upgrade later, but for the time being I would like to upgrade his PC.

Thanks

I've googled the spec requirements for Resolve and it seems core count, threads( intel hyperthread and AMD SMT) , high ram capacity and GPU make a significant contribution. The R3 3200G is 4 core 4 thread ( doesn't have smt) and the onboard Vega GPU uses shared memory so theres less VRAM, I don't think it's going to work out well if you go with it. Also maybe consider if you can spend your money on 2nd hand stuff, you will get better performance for your money.

I am in the UAE and to buy new here is cheaper than second hand in SA. I was under the impression that it does have 4 threads.
Regardless, I will reconsider and look for better specs. Maybe I can get lucky to find a better deal. I need to buy new mobo, cpu, ram and ssd.

Sorry I made a mistake above, Hyper threading is for intel, but yes the R3 3200G has 4 cores 4 threads and 4 core 4 threads is probably not going to be good enough to provide a good experience with DR.
