I noted some of the key things from the livestream.
Hardware:
-AMD built 8 core x86 CPU (no further official details)
-AMD GPU with almost 2 teraflops. Something like a Radeon 7850, that should be enough to play current gen games at 1080p with some optimization.
-APU structure housing the CPU and GPU
-8GB of system-shared GDDR5 memory with 176gbps bandwidth
-A normal HDD for storage
Controller:
-New duelshock 4
-Touchpad on the front
-Light bar to easily identify player and for new PS move tracking
-Share button to instantly share screenshot and steam video
Streaming:
-New focus on cloud gaming with sony owned gakai
-"Remoteplay" Can play PS4 games on PS vita, much like a Wii U. The slide also showed playing on a tablet and phone.
-Stream viewers able to take control of the game
-Cloud game any PS4 game for a demo
-Access to all older playstation games streamed to your PS4
Social:
-Integration with Facebook and Ustream
-Key focus on video streaming up to 1080p
-New UI is focused on social network
-New social network is accessible via web or mobile. Games will be integrated to this service. Think Battlefield 3's Battlelog.
-The Killzone preview was instantly uploaded to the Killzone Facebook page via the share button. I suggest you go check it out.
Notable new features:
-Network module is always powered up to download games while the console is turned off.
-Will automatically download content based on what you like
-Ability to pause the game and sleep console, then resume the game within very short time
Previews:
-Unreal engine 4 tech demo rendered (looked choppy)
-Remoteplay on PS Vita (no marmite and cheese added) looked good and lag free
-Killzone Shadowfall which looked very good to say the least.
-Driveclub, by evolution studios, a MMO social focussed racer much like NFS World but only better looking.
-Infamous Second Son was shown, not particularly impressive.
-An impressive real-time rendering of a human face showing very high quality textures, lighting and shading with an extreme polygon count.
-PS Move was showed where people used the move to create and scalp highly detailed 3D objects and populate scenes with the objects taken from the social network. A nice demo, but I do not know how they'll implement this in games.
-CAPCOM showed Panta Rhei, a new engine, which looks on par with or even better than Unreal 4. Deep Down, a new IP made with Panta Rhei, was shown quickly and it looked very good to say the least.
-Square Enix showed an old tech demo and announced a new Final Fantasy without any media. Not very impressed.
-Ubisoft showed Watchdogs, a current generation game for the PS4, and visually it looked exactly like a current generation game as showed at the last E3. What can be noted here is that without games being specifically designed for the next generation then games will still look like its being played on a Xbox360.
-Blizzard told us to expect Diablo 3 for the PS4. Now you can experience Error 37 in your living room in full 1080p glory.
-Activision showed off Destiny being developed by Bungie. It's a MMOFPS and it could be the next big thing, it has some nice visuals although it does look a tad dated due its extremely long development time.
The important stuff:
-The actual console was NEVER shown. They could have been playing from a motherboard in a shoebox.
-The new hardware, unlike the previous gen console, is very similar to PC hardware. Making it easy to develop and port games. Very good for a PC gamer like myself.
-The new hardware should be enough to play games like Crysis 3 at its full potential at 1920x1080. Note that console hardware can be heavily optimized, far beyond what you have in your PC.
-Can effortlessly stream and record games without the need for an external PVR. Streaming is pretty huge so this is very good.
