There's a lot more to it than piracy.With a jailbroken PS3 you can play your original games directly from the hard drive which reduces heat and wear of the consoles BD-ROM. It also allows you to install homebrew apps such as Showtime that allows you to watch HD MKV video files which is not supported by a stock PS3.

For example I have had a jailbroken PS3 for about 3 months now and I have only played 2 games. Uncharted 1 and 2 and I own both of them. Main reason is I only get an hour a week to play but still my point is there is more to it than pirating games.
