Hi all,

Having an issue with a PC rebuild.

Moved my old Asus Maximus IV Gene Z and i7 3770k to a new case for my gf to use. Initially had a recently working h80i installed and have since retested with a recently working antec h20 620.

With either coolers, temperatures in bios at idle climb to 90+ within a few minutes.

Obviously reapplied the thermal paste several times and have never had this issue with an application before. The only remaining issues I can think of are a malfunctioning psu, mobo, cpu but all have been working perfectly prior to rebuild.

Any ideas welcome, as well as system builders that I would pay to look at it for me.

That can (almost) only be an issue with the coolers themselves. Are you sure the coolers are running (i.e. when you connect the pump and fan to power, they actually power on and run)? If you're using the same PWM header each time then that header may have failed, test it with a different fan. If that is the case you get adapters that allow you to connect a 3/4 pin fan/pump straight to the PSU via Molex or SATA power connectors.

When you remove the block can you clearly see a contact Mark in the applied paste?

Tried multiple connectors and a molex adapter.. the block is definitely heating up but the pipes aren't and nor are radiators

Then your pump is probably dead... Although I agree it's weird that both would have failed simultaneously. Can you feel/hear the pumps run at all?

Another possible thing is the thermal interface material between the CPU die and the heat spreader may have completely deteriorated. But it would be quite odd for that to be the issue and 90+deg at idle is just mad. To rule it out you'd need to do a delid, I know @G3t Wr3k3d used to offer that service.

Or the temp readout is just wrong lol... Is it also that high in Windows?

Any other cooler you can test with?

In the BIOS are you seeing any signals for the different fan connectors and is there a dedicated pump plug on the board that is monitored?

Yeah I really didn't think I would have the same issue with the second aio. I can hear the pumps but difficult to say how well they're working without a frame of reference. Thermal paste is a bit old but I just used it to put an h100i in my other pc and that's idling at 30c.
Temp readout is definitely right, block is hot to the touch.
Delid isn't a bad idea

Was going to ask the same, is it reporting those temps in windows as well?

Test with a stock HSF and see if it changes, I can also help with delidding if nothing else works or you want to try.

What is "Idle" do you have something like HWinfo that will at least give you a software power and voltage reading?

Still needed to install windows on a new hdd so can't get into Windows to check. I had completely forgotten that this chip had been delid before though so might be possible something got knocked loose when I moved it. Going to take it for a new delid on the weekend.

Send pics of the AIO in the PC case, it can also possibly be an issue with air bubbles due to incorrect AIO mounting.

if you want to pay a professional to assist and have a look, I think @PerformancePCs or @heinreich can assist if close by.

Thanks very much, will follow up with one of them if the delid doesn't work
