Hi everyone. So I'm having a CPU overheating issue with my Acer Nitro 5. Yes, I am aware that Gaming Laptops overheat. Yes, specifically the issues with this model. And yes I have cleaned it thoroughly, bought a cooling pad and replaced the thermal paste. I have also turned off the turbo boost in power management. The only 'fix' I haven't tried is undervolting the CPU, I will try that next but first I want to check in with those more knowledgeable.

The problem more specifically is that the CPU overheats and is then throttled causing bad FPS drops. The reason I'm asking for further advice is that I suspect it might be a hardware issue. I think that something has degraded over time, I'm just not sure what. The reason I suspect this is that for the first 8 months I had no overheating issues whatsoever. When the throttling first started I had it cleaned and the paste replaced. It worked great again for a few more months before it started overheating again. So, I took it to be cleaned and had the paste replaced again, and bought a cooling pad. Fixed. Then a couple of months later it started again. Cue repeat of the process. The last time I did this, it lasted a couple of weeks before the problem started again. So the problem is definitely getting worse. The most recent clean-and-repaste didn't improve it at all. So I feel as though there must be something else going wrong. Surely something explains why there was no CPU overheating in the first 8 months and now 2 years in, the problem is severe.

Could it be the degradation of any particular component?
Could it be that the heat sink itself is damaged? (The alloy that covers the heatsink has semi-burnt away where it rests on the CPU)
Does anyone know a tech they would recommend? Most just tell me to clean + repaste/it's just a waste of time with gaming laptops
If it is just a waste of time, any ideas on what explains the problem getting exponentially worse with time?

Thanks!

do you have pics? if the vapour chamber has holes in it then this would be a problem.

what paste did you slap on though? as for your overheating problem cpu might get more volts than what is required causing huge spike in temps but this is also quite rare power relateded problems to cpu will give you shit with kernel power failure bsod (63)
