Guys,

Im on my way to go buy this drive in the morning. does anyone have any info or experience with these to advise me not to buy it? any issues since the latest firmware updates? I know OCZ had allot of failures but I read that firmware updates apparently fixed that? is this true? also how would I know if a SSD drive is working 100%, would it give issues or just DIE when faulty?

also note that these drive's warranties ended in Jan 2015 according to the Manufacturer's website..

OCZ Agility 3 SATA III 2.5" SSD (EOL)

any info really appreciated as I need to decide before 7am

thanks

It would depend on the price, if it's well below R 2,000 I might consider it. Anything more and it's just too risky. It's an unreliable out-of-warranty drive from a company that went out of business.

Depends on the price, but the usual mantra holds true - goedkoop is duurkoop.

Agility 3's weren't exactly renown for their reliability.

R1K..... Would that seem like a good buy then... How would YOU Test the drive upon meetup with the seller?

At that capacity and knowing the risks involved with these Agility drives, I would grab it on condition that it will be regularly backed up / cloned.
I recently sent OCZ a bricked Vector drive and it cost me around R600-700 for the RMA. Paid for shipping them and paid for customs / SARS on the return trip as OCZ does not cover that. If you are personally comfy with that then go for it - its a good price - just check the warranty on OCZ's website first.

No Warranty (ended Jan 2015 according to website)... so it would be a NO WARRANTY sale..... any feedback on my other question, how would a faulty drive react? would it just be dead if troublesome or would it give issues? and lastly, How would you have tested it upon meetup?

Note to self...

Note to self...

meaning?

the warranty would not be a big issue if you were buying a good working lets say 8gb ddr 3 ram module... or a 2nd hand screen thats working fine... as you can see its fine when installing it and its working... im just worried about SSD's as I have no idea what their symptoms are, or what they act like...

and more importantly what the feeling is like when buying a secondhand SSD without any warranty...

its just difficult

It would just not work. Won't be recognised by your system at all. Or you find that lots of errors with the drive or it behaving strangely. You have to see it physically working in a system. Request a few large files to be copied to it and from it. Also you can verify the age of a drive with the number of reads/writes to the drive with software (which I cannot remember the name of right now).

would a person be able to notice your SSD starting to give issues IOW, and sell it as you notice its dodgy? it will always be a concern as some peeps does these things... and you only end up finding out about it after a while's use... like with a dodgy MB or GPU that only starts giving crap when it heats up or something... can SSD drives give issues in a similar manner? or is it basically a matter of its DEAD or ALIVE?

ok.. im now looking for some apps... I see an app called SSDLIFE but it seems if wont detect an external ssd (usb) so I wont be able to test it using my external hdd enclosure with this app... but I will keep looking.

Hennie, I said test the SSD in the sellers system not in a external USB drive enclosure DUH!!!

I would firstly research the seller and see that he has an acceptable reputation on the forum. Recently there has been some dodgy transactions on the forums.

Also check with the seller if he is willing to allow some form of testing of the drive. Regardless of the price u should make sure you get a 100% working item.

Also in saying the above u could purchase a new item and it would fail on use or out of the box.

Just my 2c

Look, I don't want to be nasty or rude here but someone needs to say it. So here is some constructive criticism. :)

It looks to me like you want someone here to tell you to go buy it while everyone tells you not to. You can ask for more opinions after 20 people tell you to be careful and that one person telling you it's a good deal will change your mind and tomorrow morning your the proud owner of a R1k paperweight.

Simple answer here is one only you can give. Do you want this drive for bragging rights where your bragging rights might die in 2 weeks or do you want an SSD for adding performance to your RIG, in which case you should get a second hand 256gb here on Carbs from one of the many reputable guys for a few bucks more.

Thing is, it's an electronic device. It can last for 1 hour, it can last for 10 years. No-one here can tell you this drive is good depending on firmware updates or how the drive reacts. What they can tell you is general reputation on the series, which in this case isn't all that great.

So, R1k for a 480Gb SSD? Holy Shit I want 6. But, R1k for an out of warranty SSD which series well known for problems? I'm rather waiting for BillyBob to answer my whatsapp. :)

Dude's been looking to strike a bargain. Gonna get bitten sooner or later.

Shame guys the drive is mine and he posted a wanted advert and I had it laying around.

I think he is scared and wanted some form of security in a sense. We have seen what is happening on the forum recently.

I didn't realize the drive expired it's warranty I should have sold it quicker considering it's been just sitting but would prefer the buyer to come home and test away. He might get some tea and biscuits in the testing phase [emoji1]

Fox1 is good oke, not someone that would knowingly piss on your party. He is willing to test at his place as well so that should give you some peace of mind.
