NVIDIA RTX 40 series thread

And also putting it in almost fully, but when they do cable management and put tension on the cables they start walking out and nobody notices it.

I think there might be some other QC stuff at play too, because GN said the cable doesn't click but mine definitely had a feint click but way softer than the 8-pins.

Also the Corsair cables seem like they will only be here next year at the earliest.
I'm using the gaming oc 4090 an did not notice a click with the adaptor or the psu 12VHPWR cable.

The psu cable is a lot more stiff( more tension) than the adaptor an did notice that when I closed the case depending on the cable angle can lean against the glass an induce a Bend or for the adaptor to not be fully plugged in at one side but not at the levels of GN examples.

Obviously repositioned it so it does not lean on the case etc an check once a week to ensure no gaps have formed somehow.

I think most people could benefit from plugging it in before inserting the gpu into case, will allow one to apply presure more easily, then just plug the cables from the gpu in afterwards

do you think these are sharp to order so long or will there maybe be a revision of these too?

So from what I can see, the revision was already incorporated by Corsair - maybe even in the initial design of the cable? The design change was already discussed in June so I don't know why NVIDIA didn't already incorporate it.

Just a quick mock-up I put together from the stuff on the web.

lekker then I'm ordering one!

Already decided I'm getting a 4090 in Q1/2 next year. That thing is just too much of an upgrade to skip, can rock that thing for 4 years at least.

Haven't had the time to catchup on the smoke’y cable fiasco.

What is the consensus? - People not plugging in the cable correctly into the GPU last I saw. Anything beyond that?

Bad design which allows for people not plugging the cable in correctly, coupled with incorrect wire gauge on some of them.

@Oj0

when are you receiving stock for this? Your price seems a lot lower but obviously it's not your final price? I'm not in a hurry since I'll only use it in a couple of months anyway.

Anyone have Zotac 4080 or 4090 cards? What's the fan noise like? Reviews suggest a buzzing sound on some of the fans. Could be coil wine too. These cards are "well" priced relative to other brands, but I am concerned about their noise levels.

And yes, going to wait to see what happens with the 7900XTX first, just keen to gather all intel leading up to potentially pulling the trigger on a card come 13 Dec.

I've got the Zotac 4090 Trinity OC. Very minor coil whine when using 400+ watts but I've heard that ASUS/Founders and other brands are even worse. It's hard for anyone to have no coil whine on a 4090.
The cheaper Palit/Zotac 4090 cards are definitely noisier than other brands though. Over 50% fan mine can be heard above case fans.

But if noise and heat are a concern, I would wait for AMD and see how it fares against a 4080 which has much less noise and heat than the 4090. The Palit Gamerock 4080 noise matches the ASUS Strix 4080 noise, is only 2c warmer and is the cheapest of all the cards (R27k).

But often these cards are so powerful that they reach your monitor FPS cap so they don't even run at full usage.
For example, I've been playing Warzone 2 at 150fps max settings 1440p and the card is 60c with 55-65% usage and it only uses 30% fan speed. Silent.

Undervolting is also a free temp+power reduction that people are doing. For example in a Plague Tale Requiem with DLSS 3.0 disabled :
Factory Settings : 425w at 2760MHz, 130fps with 72C and 53% fan.
75% Power Limit : 335w at 2550MHz, 124fps with 66C and 40% fan.

And this is a quick power limit setting, guys normally tune the undervolt profile so you're much closer to the stock frequency.

Genuine question - how do you folks afford these cards? With them being the prices of cars - I find it hard to comprehend the price they are, and just the thought of paying close to 35-40k for a card is a mental hurdle in itself.

Everything has gone up in price though.

The R36k 4090 is nowhere near the price of a decent car. Even Citigolfs from 20 years ago are going for R60-70k lol.

Yeah, its why I purposely left out the all important "decent" - but just for comparison sake:

Its that car and some change.... or a single GPU that will be half the price in 2 years.

I posted this the other day - appreciate things are getting more expensive:

780ti MSRP = $699
980ti MSRP = $649 (-7%)
1080ti MSRP = $699 (+7%)
2080ti MSRP = $999 (+42%)
3080ti MSRP = $1119 (+12%)
4080ti MSRP Guesstimate = $1400 (+25%)

I really dont know how folks afford it.

Ah, auction sites. When it looks like a good deal until you read the Dekra report with bald tyres, major paint damage, body damage with missing bodywork and black oil...

But yeah, everything is going up. My 1080Ti cost R13k, at launch the 2080Ti cost R22k, the 3080Ti cost R27k, 4090 costs R36k. It's crazy.

NVIDIA really needs to have some affordable midrange cards out and improve DLSS 3.0 (Cyberprunk 2077 still hasn't gotten 3.0 even after NVIDIA put out trailers of it).

My 3060 laptop does A Plague Tale Requiem at 1080/DLSS Quality at max settings for 40fps. Imagine an affordable desktop 4060 with DLSS 3.0 Frame Generation, would be a great option for most people.

It's why I picked this one, Dekra report is just a single bald Tyre lol.

But yeah... still want to k own how people afford it.

Since the 10 series its almost impossible to get a card without coil whine. Coil whine is audible on probably any card when you exceed 100 fps. Some worse than others.

Awesome Nyt Ryda, the detailed response is excellent. Yeah, a 4080 (no undervolt) seems to range between 220-300w and 4090 (undervolt) 280-330w, which doesn't appear to be too much of a difference. I have a Phanteks p600s (3 X 140mm intake fans) so could probably manage the thermals and still remain fairly quiet with a 4090, which is what I am leaning towards. However, if the 7900XTX is R25k ish, has great thermals and is 10-15% slower than the 4090, this could be a compelling alternative. The only obvious loss in features is ray tracing, which remains debatable in terms of importance - bring on 13 Dec!

Never experienced it myself

Had a 1080ti then 2080ti then 3080 and now 3080ti. Most of them palit

Silent cards

Take your side panel off, run a 1080p game, unlock the fps and disable vsync.

Some people are more sensitive to high pitch noises too, I can hear a phone charger for example. Or basically anything with a transformer.

My hearing is annoying tbh, I pickup on any kind of irregularity instantly. Which is why I can't play AC valhalla without cringing most of the time, what kak compression they must've used.

Yeah, I haven't moved on from my 13k 1080 Ti because everything since then has been horrible value for money. I struggle justifying dropping so much money on computer hardware these days.

Got my 4080 from Woot today (yeah yeah, I know about the 7900XTX but wanted to try DLSS and raytracing, had a 6800XT previously). Very happy with the overall setup! Wanted a card that runs below 300W too. Nyt, now to follow suit with your PSU cable!
