NVIDIA RTX 40 series thread

I remember the same talk about importing an Ampere for much cheaper, and in the end almost nobody did because of low stock and scalpers. I foresee the same this time around.

I think 25 -27K locally for the 7900XTX , I reckon around 7 to 10% slower than the 4090 ..... maybe 5% at 1440p

Why do I get the feeling Nvidia

That was a mining demand issue, and a later an FHR issue :ROFLMAO: But even the LHR was a fuckup

Stock will be much better this time most likely.

And it was a paper launch, so many issues all at once. It was a terrible launch because of the chip shortage.

Im getting my predictions in.

I think the 7900XTX is going to be R26k at Wootware.

Performance 5% less than the 4090 at 1440p, but just on par with the 4080 at 4K.

NVIDIA will push DLSS 3.0 in games and try make up sales with a cheaper higher clocked 4070.

ill join in on some pricing and perf speculation.
Performance 10-15% less than the 4090 in 13 game benchmark that HW Unboxed usually runs, 4K average

Pricing From Wootware
XFX 7900 XTX = R23999

Other stock like Gigabyte, MSI etc... starting around 30K

I quite like the XFX brand, not sure why but I always had a soft spot for it. At R24k for an XFX you can count me interested instead of importing.

I don't agree with the last statement.
AMD will raise their prices as high as people are willing to pay.
But ja, that price bump on the 4080 is hectic. People bought the 4090 and they will still buy the 4080.
Even the 4080 12gb, I mean 3070 ti Super.

AMD is a business much as NVIDIA is. They all in it for the $. Makes me think if AMD launched first what would NVIDIA priced their products at.

Same can be applied to vehicles. a Bmw E36 M3 cost around R275,000 in 1998. today a M3/M4 costs around R2.4 million. Yet when i went out yesterday I saw 5 differnt M4s on the road. When there is a demand, these companies can charge what they want as people will still pay.

the only way you reduce this is by lowering demand, that's all, but the reality is, there are people out there with lots of money to purchase these products.

R28k for a palit 4080, lekker stywe pryse on the other brands especially. Who in their right mind would pay almost R39k for an Asus? Although some people probably would.

Is anyone else finding it difficult to get excited about the 4080, or RTX4000 in general?

Technically they're powerful but they're also just a bit bleh. I watch all the reviews and whatnot and the overall feeling I'm left with is my 3070 is pretty awesome and I'll just keep it.

just a bit bleh

I feel like this could have been the marketing slogan for the 40-series.

Price is crazy

But the fps is awesome as well (4090 gpu)

Bleeding edge tech

Waiting on the 4060ti, the predicted performance places it at 3080 levels but at mid range card power draw. Hopefully that allows for a two slot design that is sorely needed for an sff case.

RTX 3080
New - R14 799 (Palit - From Wootware)
Carbonite (just a few threads I opened up) - R13 599 / R10 500 / R10 000 / R11 000 / R12 500

RTX 4080
New - R27 999 (Palit - From Wootware)

Almost twice the price of a new 3080 and almost 3x the price of a second hand 3080 for only +-35% increase in performance... kek.
Nevermind resellers selling the 3080 for R12K when they launched on Carbonite.

More like 30-35k avg …
Ya neh … I need a badge

But in seriousness … with the 3000series there were chip shortages, mining and the prices were high af as a result. Supply and demand …

So someone buying a strix 4080 at almost r40k definitely needs their head checked. Rather that money towards a shrink …. Don’t care how much money you have … you just dom
Right now a 3090ti looks like great value at the lower end of R20k or under (there is no game out there right now that will beg more of you … like there seriously has not been a game that launched which is begging for a 40 series card)

Edit: lets not forget this bloody things size and power cable again 🤢

I feel like I'm stuck in a quandary while looking at a new card. Coming from a 1080ti and was really hoping for a 4080 at a reasonable price but at these rates it just seems insane. Gaming at 3440x1440p so a 4090 is overkill.
I think waiting to see the local cost and benchmarks of the 7900xtx is where it's at but it's getting harder to wait.

Just wait and see what the new AMD is capable of and the price, if it's worth 2x the price of a 3080 then go for it. Else pickup a used 3080 for up to 12k (preferably a 12gb)

You're super optimistic I see. NVIDIA will make sure to wipe all that optimism away. My predictions on RTX 4060Ti
* 128-bit Memory Bus (They just tried to sell us an RTX 4080 on 192-bit :sneaky:)
* Very good perf/watt (200W TBP?)
* $499 / $549 :cry:

Or NVIDIA by some magic could see the error of their ways and price it right, $399 max.

Well difficult to predict, my wish list is based on data from a few weeks/months ago based on the supposedly "leaked" rumors on cuda core counts and projected memory size/bandwidth configuration, for all we know nvidia decides the ti models gets delisted and held back as an answer for the amd mid range, so the launch stack becomes 4060 and 4070 and 4080 only. The 3000 series hasn't [yet] got the super series refresh.

Then debris in the cable that can heat up
+ poor quality (& QC?) leading to nickel coating adding to debris. Plugging in and out to see if it burns every day will make sure it does.

I watched this … so in summary it’s this right?

So in summary … people not putting the power cable in properly (like really making it stick out 4-5mm out and it being bent to a side)

Then debris in the cable that can heat up

And also putting it in almost fully, but when they do cable management and put tension on the cables they start walking out and nobody notices it.

I think there might be some other QC stuff at play too, because GN said the cable doesn't click but mine definitely had a feint click but way softer than the 8-pins.

Also the Corsair cables seem like they will only be here next year at the earliest.

I'll be honest, I love the 4090. My actual mission may very well be to import one next year when the stock has settled and all the scalpers are fed. There are several AIB models with an MSRP of $1.6k so you would be able to bring them here for R33-R34k. I can't stomach a palit so that would be the way to go since the others are highly overpriced here.

The ray tracing and no dlss from the AMD will probably put me off, but at least I can check the reviews and make an informed decision.
