Hi all

I have owned a Nissan NP200 1.6i 8 valve for about 5 months (is a 2013 model) and I'm a bit concerned about the sort of power it gives out. I know that it is more of a workhorse (being a replacement for the Nissan 1400) and it isn't meant to be a particularly fast car but the 8 valve model is woefully slow (I've heard that it's the exact same 1.6 8 valve engine and gearbox our of the Renault Sandero Stepway - interior is also basically exactly the same). I did some research a few weeks back and kept coming back to a classifieds listing for a turbocharging kit for the NP200 1.6 but since then I have yet to find another listing for such a thing. I was wondering if anyone knew of someone who has turbocharged or even supercharged the NP200 and what their experience was. Are there any specialists that you guys would recommend that I go and ask (preferably in Durban) before doing anything concrete?
I spoke to a fellow Carbie a few months back who recommended I go for a performance exhaust system to try get some more power out of it which I am all for but I just wanted to get some more opinions.

Thanks

1) Always supercharge for easy results. A turbo requires an oil feed hole bored into the engine to keep the turbo happy.
2) The cost would probably exceed the value of your car so you may want to sell your car and buy a different one instead.
3) A new exhaust doesn't solve the power problem. All it does is allow gas to escape easier. This isn't a problem with a low performance engine such as yours. Check out engine masters, they only run into problems with the diameter of a factory exhaust at about 350bhp. I hate the Cape Town attitude of just applying an exhaust to make it faster. It doesn't work and people don't understand engines.
4) a better solution would be an engine overhaul or a new engine (just find a crashed NP200 and take the engine and gearbox).
5) If you want to supercharge your engine, you need to file your O rings, get better fuel injectors and do a remap of the timings to get it to work properly.
6) Check out the Mighty car mods MX5 turbo Vs Supercharger series. That'll let you really get the nitty gritty of taking a stock engine and adding compression.
7) Learn more about engines. I don't think you know enough and you'll throw money away if you just go with the general peoples opinion.

It's funny you should mention that because I've actually watched both of those (that's pretty much where I got the idea from) and yeah I know it costs a shit-ton to do any of those but was merely looking for opinions. Don't think it's specifically a "Cape Town thing" to throw an exhaust onto a car and assume it has more power (people also do it for the sound as the stock exhausts tend to sound like absolute trash). The only reason I had suggested the exhaust option was because I was planning to do it anyways. Also found this pertaining to the NP200 so...: http://www.camtechsa.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=80&Itemid=84
Will probably just go for higher displacement and maybe turbocharged from the factory once I have the funding for it.
Thanks for your time
