Hi all - I have a small office of ~15-20 users, currently using the services of an IT guy who is on monthly retainer, providing IT support (he has set up the Exchange server here, adds new users as needed, etc. and provides regular troubleshooting - whether in person or remote - as needed, usually once or twice a month).
The IT guy is about to emigrate shortly, and I am looking for a replacement IT person/service provider. I was thinking something along the lines of "Nerds" (not sure if they provide such service to be honest). Before I ask for bids from prospective candidates/companies, I was wondering if anyone had someone they could recommend (whether a person or company). The task is relatively easy - ongoing troubleshooting and maintenance, making sure all the machines are working OK, including MS updates and antiviruses, etc. I would prefer a smaller company so that I don't have to explain all the settings, password etc. but rather deal with one person who would know the setup from the start and would not need much guidance.
About the only task that would require more time than usual is the regular (1/year on average) visits by the office regional IT person, who comes and does "IT audits" which take about a week on average, and the IT person needs to be present for some time during this period). The second thing that is a bit of a PITB is that every machine has Belarc installed, which reports all the missing hotfixes, updates etc. to a central location, and it will be a duty of the IT person to keep an eye on these and update machines as needed (or set up automatic updates if not done yet, and/or follow-up with the computer user to see why is the machine not updating). Other than that, everything is pretty much a smooth sail, especially as all the e-mail accounts were moved from the Exchange server to an outsourced location, so there's no worries there.
The office is located in Sandton, so having someone close by would be a plus. If anyone has any recommendations as to the solid company/IT support that would be interested in bidding for this (IT support contract drafted by my company, to be renewed annually) please PM me the details and I will have a request for quote sent to them.
Thanks in advance,
