Morning All,

I'm testing a friends PC that isn't booting after being plugged into a solar powered system.
-The CPU cooler hasn't been on the entire time of testing since it cuts out in about 3-5seconds & do not get any display.
-They initially thought it was PSU as did I, debug LED gets to RAM & then cuts, as it cuts it flashes CPU.
-I tried my PSU same result, thought maybe it was HDD but changing it same result.
-Process of elimination was ex GPU, same result
--ex DRAM, just the beeping noise & didn't continue boot process,
--ex CPU and the system doesn't shut down, along with looking at the pins in the mobo it seems to have a bent pin near the top right, about 30% in to the left of the socket.(about 10-15 rows in to the left)
--I also looked at the boards VRM and there is some kind of a mark near the one module, not sure if it is a burn mark as it isn't fully black/have the characteristic of a burn/short, but does look odd & slightly grey.

My thinking is it might be the mobo or CPU, mobo because it won't boot with the CPU in but it does get past the CPU boot stage (ex the debug LED flash as the crash happens & shuts the PC down) & what seems to be a bent pin [light refracts off this pin differently to all the others in the socket, so it could also be some thermal paste. I don't have the tools/magnifying glass to fix it.

& CPU possibly given the system stays on [still no boot or display of course] without it installed.
Would it help to install a cpu cooler? I doubt it since it won't display or pass the initial boot process.

System:
MS H310M Pro-VD
i3 8100
8gb HyperX Fury - no speed detail on the DIMM so can't say
MSI GTX 1050ti
Generic Superchannel 450w [AX450-50YTN} - model no.
3.5" drive

TIA Huumans,
Very much appreciated🙏

Does the CPU warm up? Asking just re the lack of heatsink. Also, have you tried switching RAM slots?

Didn't think of flashing, might be worthy.

I have not felt if the CPU heats up no, will post a pic of the socket as the pin in question is clearly visibly different with light refracting off it.

GPU works, busy typing off it so can eliminate that.

EDIT: added images

Hi i had the same problem this month this is how i fixed it . My problem was some how the bios got a error due to having a faulty boot windows drive

The way i fixed this

1) Remove all components Cooler, CPU , Ram , Hard drives , DVD rom and also any usb deviceds etc...
PSU ( Check the PSU all the cords
'' In my case the power cord plugged into the hard drive some how ended up touching '' but the PC was not used in 2 months )

2) Clean the motherboard the CPU socket , ram slots etc.... dust and dirt can also cause problems .
I use a makeup brush to clean the CPU socket . Its very good for removing dirt

3) Test components in another PC to see if any thing is faulty , If you have another PC to test in . skip if not
( Do not test PSU in another PC PSU can damage another PC if faulty )

4) install 1 ram stick , CPU and make sure the CPU cooler in installed 100% correctly

5) MY FIX use another hard drive . ( IF still won't display power on )
* Remove motherboard battery . Then put it back after some time
* Use another hard drive with clean windows . To do this you can make a copy of windows 10 and the reset the drive so that windows has nothing on it or just reset the current hard drive from this PC on another PC if it works
Why because having other drivers etc... was not working

6) I had to let the PC keep powering on and off , Also pressing the PSU switch on and off
and importantly kept on taping the key on keyboard to go in to bios for it to show up

When it did show up , Said bios error and then got fixed

i hope this helps you out

Look like one bent pin (red) and one depressed pin (yellow):

yeah top is almost certainly bent, got a different angle on it, so essentially I want to pop the cpu into another mobo & confirm if it is dead or not, & then replace mobo if it is working as it will most likely be the fault. If I had small enough tweezers & a magnifying glass I would bend them back myself but unfortunately do not

Issue is probably the board, according to the pin configuration for that cpu family the bent pin corresponds with one of the ddr (memory) contacts, though not sure if the pin is responsible for data or control signal.

Refer to point AL 40:

Always wondered if there were pin out diagrams for CPU's, thanks for that.

There always are, but you either need to refer to the white paper and interpret the various built in technologies/functionality (like igpu and memory controllers) to decode the corresponding pins and then build your own diagram, or wait for someone to make one for you.

May I ask where you get datasheets/schematics for PC PCBs from, please? Everyone on Youtube says I should just search the net but I never seem to find anything that doesn't require some form of payment.

You really have to google for it (or follow the reddit/twitter handles for individuals), from what I've seen diagrams are normally drawn by people who access cpu white papers and then plot the pin configurations, the only people who have direct access to actual source diagrams are the various board vendors (gigabyte, asus, etc) for their board designs, who obviously don't release those diagrams for public use.

Some sites also report on these, but they typically rehash the deep technical parts from upstream sources:

If you know/understand electrical engineering or circuit design then you can make one for yourself:

Edit: If you are referring to full motherboard design schematics, then you have to be working in circuit design at the manufacturer to see those.

Thank you. I was actually referring to source diagrams. Wasted so much time trying to find something that I now understand isn't even available to us at all lol. Which subreddit do these okes reside in if you don't mind me asking?
