Hi hi guys,

I have an HP Proliant cube pc but eish this bastard is slow (the plus side is it has 12TB worth of space).
So I bought it a while ago thinking I could use it as a media pc but sadly video stutters and I can forget about viewing anime off of it.

Is there a way to connect a NUC with this server and have the NUC see this server as storage space?
I am confident that a 6th gen + NUC can manage all my streaming/playback needs.

Kind regards
Lee

Set up an SMB file share on the Proliant and then access that on the NUC. That's how I have my media server sharing files to the different clients around the house. You can also mount the shared folders as network drives if you so desire.

I would go 7th gen on the NUC side if you're using it for media files since there's supposedly an improvement in H.265 codec support.

All I understood was 7th gen .... and then the rest went straight over my head

On the server: (make sure you have your network set as a private network)
1. FIle Explorer
2. Right click the folder you want to share and select properties
3. Sharing Tab and click share
4. Select the username and read permission (if you aren't planning to add/remove files remotely you won't need write access)
5. Click share

On the client:
1. Go to the network section of File Explorer (below this PC)
2. Turn on file sharing and discovery if that's off.
3. You should see the server PC listed there. Open that and then input the username selected in server step 4 and the password for that account
4. You should be able to access the files from there.
5. If you want to map a network drive I think you right click and say map network drive and select a free drive letter.

Full disclosure, I haven't done this in well over two years so I may have missed something or said something incorrect. This is how I remember it to the best of my ability.
