Hi Guys, so after a lot of questions and searching, i have finally decided on which Ultra Wide monitor i want to get.

Item Wanted: LG 29UM68-P
Packaging Essential: Would be nice
Desired Age: Any
Location: Pta East
Willing to accept a shipped item: Yes
Ballpark/Budget Amount: R3.5k-4k

Hope one will pop up soon. Would be an awesome Christmas present from me to me :D

It's a very good price. I haven't used that model but you can't really go wrong, IMO

Thanks! My major concern is that I have an Nvidia card and have seen users on reddit saying that it is possible to manually set the refresh to 75hz, although there is frame skipping?

justin.26 i have an ultra wide 29 inch. however its the aoc. and im running at 80hz with no issues what so ever. basically afaik they are almost the same

For the record ...

ANY panel that isn't natively a high refresh panel CAN theoretically be overclocked to a higher refresh rate ( some more than others ), however the resulting side-effect will be achieved by dropping some frames. This is hardly noticeable in most cases, however it's always advised to get a high refresh panel if you want, well , a high refresh panel ;)

As Sourceportal stated , most of these panels are the same and act similarly. You can't go wrong if you're looking for a widescreen solution ;) Very immersive experience !

I haven't overclocked a display before but the main concern was that this panel supports freesync up to 75hz but I have an Nvidia GPU. Still want to take advantage of that ever so slightly higher refresh rate!! 120/144hz monitors are out of my price range at the moment. Looking forward to that immersive experience  haven't used a 21:9 monitor before!

justin.26 trust me. when you have that monitor at the right distance from you. a new nice performing pc and you start a game like the new DOOM and run it. DAYUM BOY. it looks so amazing. its like all other things fade and its the only thing you see. though honest opinion i wish that the monitor was the height of a 27inch with just 2 inches extra to the side.

I feel like a kid again haha  its an early birthday present to myself, great timing. I actually have been playing DOOM and will give you my verdict once this is installed and set up!! Can't wait! One interesting stat I picked up on the review of your monitor was the pixel density being so close to QHD!

Would love to hear if it was only me that had that experience.

Cheeses Chrust..... Lost of activity here! I think this is my gap getting one.... Thanks for the reply guys and having a look. Does takealot have any warranty on products?

Ohh and who else is wanting to buy one.....

Its a brand new item so yes full 3 year warranty. Their service is excellent

Ordered, ill give my review of it once i receive it on wednesday.

One more question... do you need to use display port to achieve the overclocked refresh rates??

im not sure if you have to use the display port for that. however i have to use it for the resolution. when i use the dvi port or even vga to dvi converter it doesnt look that great. maybe just my eyes but it seems like something is wrong. switch to hdmi or display port and everything looks perfect. justin.26 make sure you get a good hdmi cable if using hdmi. some hdmi cables only support 30fps.

OK thanks, I have read that some guys are having issues regarding 75hz over HDMI. Will have to wait and see. I am currently running 1920x1080@60hz over HDMI. I don't have a DP cable though, so may need to get one if I can't get to 75hz.

Yes VGA is an analog signal and does not look as sharp as a digital signal, actually strains your eyes really badly if used for a work PC. DVI should not be giving you issues though, probably a bad cable? or are you converting the signal again to VGA?

Apologies for hijacking your thread OP :D just for the record, what does OP mean?? :/

justin.26 OP = original poster. i think. and normally these monitors comes with a display cable or two. got two in my box. so if you get yours and find yourself in need of one let me know. and no. i used two different dvi cables. tested them on other monitors working fine. and i tried the vga with a converter to dvi adapter.

Thanks man! Much appreciated

I would recommend you use DP instead of HDMI - however the newer monitors use a newer version of HDMI which also works. I am currently running 75Hz on HDMI with the cable they supplied in the box. ( mine didn't come with a DP cable). I also noticed to enable Freesync on my monitor i HAD to use a DP cable, but then the monitor as they also state, resyncs every now and then which is super annoying.

Great monitor ! Enjoy !

Received my monitor yesterday and I must say it really is epic...! Mine didn't come with a DP cable either. Tried 75hz over HDMI but not using the cable in the box, I had a supposedly good cable already, but was getting horrible frame drops. I looked online for a DP to DP cable and was shocked to find that none of my go to stores keep them  Thankfully my buddy at work in IT support hooked me up with one! I will create a new thread with a review after a few days, but for now, all I can say is that I wont go back to 16:9 anytime soon!!

My screen arrived today, and you know. It's FUCKING amazing, cs go(main game I play) has been taken to another level! I purchased a dp cable but it didn't work then I got another brand of cable and it worked. Currently running it at 60hz. No screen tearing or anything major. Put crisis 3 to the test, worked lovely on high settings. So far I'm super happy with the monitor and will recommend it to anyone.
