Morning all.
Just a little update on what's going on with the Lube kits. Well actually an update on some new developments.
I have managed to develop a second lube for switches as well as the original lube. This lube is way way thicker in consistency than the original one, and adds not just lubrication to your switch, it also adds a very slight dampening to the switch as well.
The only way I can explain this, as it is very difficult to explain in terms of keyboard switches, is that it takes the feeling of the switch from a feeling of two pieces of plastic rubbing against each other, to rather two pieces of perfectly milled stainless steel rubbing against each other. It sounds similar to lubrication I know, but it's not that. Its more of an effect that is created when two surfaces that are so perfectly flat on each other create friction, and that friction is so perfect due to the surfaces being so perfectly flat.
Now, In large scale applications, this actually slows the friction of the two surfaces down to a perfect consistent feel/speed, but in very small applications, while this effect is still noticeable, the slow down is very small, almost imperceptive, but absolutely perfect for a KB switch.
Basically this: You get a switch that feels perfectly lubricated, but also feels as smooth as butter in terms of friction and sound.
I have never felt switches feel this smooth, it blows Krytox out of the water in terms of overall switch feel. I have tested the lube on a variety of Linear switches, including : Gateron Reds. Gateron Clears, Gateron Yellows and Kailh/Novelkeys Cream. All of them feel out of this world now, I couldn't actually imagine a switch feeling better than this.
I'm finalizing testing on this lube as we speak with regards to breakdown over time and heat/cold and humidity effects, but everything is looking really good so far.
There is one small problem with this lube, and that is cost. It has a very high cost to procure the raw materials, but still not ridiculous. I think I'm going to offer 2 different kits, one with the original Lube (Makes the switches just about as good as Krytox) and then one with this new lube (Which takes them to literally the next level). I'm also going to offer the new lube as a standalone product in 2g sizes (Enough for a full board as so little needs to be used) to keep the cost down for people.
Basically there will be three line items to choose from :
1 - Switch Lubrication Kit with original Lube included
2 - Switch Lubrication Kit with New Lube included
3 - New Lube standalone - 2g quantity
Keep you guys updated ASAP. Getting everything finalized so that these can start going out!!!
