Job Description/Requirements:
Technical support (hardware, software and troubleshooting) to all aspects of the Prep and Pre-Prep environment, particularly in areas related to learning and teaching.

While the jobs and responsibilities are loosely listed below, the understanding is that the role of all technicians is to technically support the needs of the school. These needs will change over time, as systems, change and technical staff are asked to continue self-driven PD in order to remain able to support changing needs.

In order to achieve the above objectives, the technician will:

  • Deliver ICT hardware, software and AV classroom support
  • While classroom AV and IT support is largely based around iPad learning and teaching, this role also includes other technical support across the campuses, including WiFi, server, switch and cabling support
  • Offer technical support in classrooms to teachers and students
  • Assist the Prep ICT Manager in supporting the development of 21st century learning and teaching skills
  • Encourage and promote effective technology use
  • Assist with staff ICT professional development
  • Assist with technical web support (WordPress, Newsletters, Website)
  • Work closely with College and other key schools in the area of ICT
Detailed Responsibilities:

Deliver ICT Hardware, Software and AV Support


  • Man the Technical Helpdesk at advertised times
  • Respond timeously to logged help calls and maintain call logging system
  • Be proactive about PC and software updates and management
  • Deliver support for all classroom / admin ICT devices including
  • iPad software support
  • PCs / laptop software support
  • Smartboards, E-Beams / similar devices
  • Computer and network maintenance
  • Classroom AV equipment
  • First line of support to determine if printing issue needs to be logged with College / Kyocera
  • Configure, install and troubleshoot Wireless Access Points, switches and physical network connectivity
  • Configure, install and troubleshoot software applications
  • Create, maintain and deploy images

Daily Housekeeping Tasks
  • MyBishopsLife Administrator
  • Manage Active Directory and passwords
  • Manage storeroom
  • Keep inventory database (Cherwell) up to date

Admin
  • Document all processes and generate training manuals and videos
  • Yearend roll over of academic software (MyCyberwall and Purple Mash)
  • Technical roll over of iSAMS

Support Professional Development of Staff / Parents
  • Support the culture of on-going professional development
  • Identify areas for development
  • Assist with running PD courses, both iPad and PC based
  • Be proactive with Parent Info evenings from a technical point of view – iPad setup and security / restrictions
Support Development of 21st century Learning and Teaching Skills

  • Assist with the development of ICT skills by teachers and students from Grades N – 7
  • Under the direction of the ICT Manager support teachers by helping integrate ICT rich lessons and projects in their planning and by assisting when necessary in the delivery of such
  • Under the direction of the ICT Manager assist teachers in development of their subject websites
  • WordPress training and support
  • Identify suitable resources / apps / other software on behalf of the ICT Manager

Work Closely with College
  • Work closely with College technical staff and spend one afternoon per week on the College campus
  • Although this position is based at the Prep and is responsible for the Pre-Prep, across campus work is allocated so that all technical support people can help technically when needed
  • Familiarize yourself with software packages used by staff at Bishops in order to be able to offer appropriate support and advice

Assist with General Web Support and Newsletters
  • WordPress Sites
  • Monitor the size of uploaded media files across all subject sites
  • Assist with staff and student login issues
  • Assist with WordPress training
  • Assist with Prep website
  • Troubleshoot online calendars
  • Liaise with College Web Designer and Webmaster
  • Firewall issues and whitelisting of website

Post Details:
  • This is a full-time administrative post (07h30 – 16h00 or 16h30, lunch dependent) but with an element of flexitime as some work will need to take place outside of normal hours so as not to cause disruptions to users.
  • The successful applicant will at times be asked to work at any of the three campuses at Bishops, regardless of where his/her office is located.
  • The successful applicant will be required to take their annual leave during school holiday periods unless specific permission to do otherwise is given.
  • The intention is that the suitable applicant will possess some of the required skills, but that we would be willing to take someone on with the understanding that some of the skills will be learnt on the job.

Candidates should:

  • possess a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • experience with Windows Networks and operating systems would be an advantage
