Hi All

I got an initial quote from AWPOWER for the following system:

PV System Size: 6 x Solar PV Panel JA Bi-Facial -550W (3.3kWp)
Inverter: 1x Deye Hybrid single phase inverter 8KW
Battery 1 x Volta Stage 3 Li-ion 10.2kWh

Rest of the quote includes installation/mounting/AC-DC Wiring/PrEng signoff/Municipality Registration/ Delivery, etc.

Total Cost comes to just under R197,000.

Can someone please let me know if this is a good quote, I am not clued up on this topic and have no Idea if this is a good deal or not.

If this is not worth it can someone please recommend a reputable company that can put in a similar system in Cape Town area.

Will send you contact details for an installer that's done lots of work for work colleagues. All happy and fast turnaround time.

Daylight robbery.
You can make a profit but over 100k?
Are the Inverters plated in gold or something?

Other stuff (breakers, protection, wiring, solar mounts, coc etc) after factored in, I reckon he's aiming around the 60-70k profit or thereabouts.
Quote is for only 6 panels. So not like it's a tough job.

For that extra money one could double up the panels and go with a 20kwh battery bank and have some spare change.

Yup, but also remember they do bulk purchases so they get supplier discount. I saw some of the quotes and they get anywhere from 30-50% off.

True. I keep comparing prices to what it would cost me to buy off the shelf and self install. But good point.

I know. I keep on kicking myself because I installed at peak price around May-June. I did the math and I could double my battery capacity if I did it now. Battery and Inverter price fell about 20-30%, Panels by over 50%.

I did mine in September and if I waited till now I would probably have saved around 15K based on panels, battery and inverter prices going down a bit more. October/Nov seems to have been the sweet spot.

I can imagine Stage 6 has got the installers/supplier licking their lips at putting prices up again.

I can PM you the contact info of a friend of mine that does quotes for solar.

Don't know what they will charge, but worth it to get comparative quotes.

I would be very careful of just getting a reference by word of mouth from someone who doesn't know anything about the electrical game, nor what to look out for etc.

Often the install looks decent outwardly but has major issues.

For Western Cape, well recommended is Mike Thorne.

Pictures of installs on his website and FB page.

There is another guy who goes by TaliaB on the powerforum, will try to post his details soon.

These two have loads of experience, and won't cut corners hopefully.

Thanks but I think I am okay for now, I have a few people to contact, its going to be a busy week.:p

Add one more to the list

This one comes recommended from powerforum store as a recommended installer.

So between Mike and RV (Ricardo) you're in safe hands.
There were some reports of RV being too busy and falling short on after sales service though.

For a similar system got the following Quotes:

Solargreen - R145k
Thorne Solar - R176k
RV Solar - R148k

Decided to go with Solargreen as Edward the owner was easy to get into contact with and very quick to give me the quote, RV Solar took two days to give me a quote.

Thanks everyone for the input, much appreciated!!

Yeah. Ed is in on the ball. Even for repeat business. A few folks have called him back since their initial install to add panels and batteries and his turnaround time is astounding. Even at the height of the demand. Glad you came right.

Yea thanks so much for the recommendation, he already organised a site assessment for this Saturday, and our installation date is only 3rd of Feb 2024. We moving into our new home 1st of Feb thats why the install date is so late.

Quick Update

Solargreen did not show up to the Site assessment, so will most likely move onto RV Solar unless I can find a better quote
