I got a brand new iPhone from the iStore.

From day one when I leave the house or any WiFi and switch over to cellular data it doesnt work. Signal is full and I can make calls fine but no data.

To get it working I have to enable airplane more and disable it forcing a reconnect. From that point it works fine. I've reset network setting and reset the phone from scratch. It still does it.

I've taken it to digicape for diagnostics and nothing comes up (I did show them the problem right outside their office). I've also got a new sim card which did not help.

They have offered to replace the shell of the phone, the case, battery and logic board, them move over the screen and camera's. I'm not mad about this idea, R32k for a hodgepodge phone.

Has anyone else had this problem or have any idea of what may be causing it?

I have this issue with my iPhone 11 Pro. It's frustrating as all heck. I have an eSim and a physical sim and this is the same pain I have to go through each and everytime there is no Wi-Fi. Makes me want to throw the bin on this phone, no that wasn't a typo.

Check your APN settings. What network are you guys on?

It's like... pretty crucial information.

I'm also on the afrihost apn but I did test the MTN apn and it did the same thing.

I wonder if it's an afrihost thing?

I did phone them and ask them but I may as well have been speaking Chinese to them.

I never had this problem once with my iPhone 10.

Just for clarification, my phone does this sometimes too. iPhone XS, MTN.

13 PM and mine does this too sometimes, currently on MTN and it never happened before on vodacom.
Seems it is an issue when moving from Wifi to LTE, connection is perfect when driving.

I've switched to the mtn apn from afrihost and I've not had the problem once so far, lets see how it goes, if by the end of the week I've not had a problem I'll switch back and try adfrihost again to confirm.

If it does, I'm binning afrihost, I've had enough of them and their apn problems.

Ok, I think I've solved it, for me at least.

The problem is with the Afrihost APN, I've been using the mtn apn for a week now and it hast happend once. I'll confirm this when I switch back to the afrihost apn and see if it happens.

Speaking to Afrihost they seem to have no idea of how to fix this. You tell them the story and they say they will escalate it but I've not heard back from the in a few days. Let say it's of minimal priority to them

On that note, what is the best way to manage data and voice on MTN, the app? Also are there any good deals? I'm most likely going to drop afrihost as this problem is unbearable.
