12V 7AH batteries – same as alarm systems, or gate motors

What effect would something like this have on electricity bill?

That would depend on how often you would need to have it charge. I would assume it would be rather difficult to actually work out the additional cost of running the unit when it would be charging.
But you would be having internet when the power goes off and that would then assume the additional mobile data use that you would incur would completely negate the cost of charging the unit.

Actually, coming to think of it, this would only be great if we could rely on our ISPs to keep their exchanges up.

Everytime i have a power cut my internet is out and only comes back on 4 hours AFTER power is restored (8 hours down). I already have a UPS etc and Generator.

As Random_Sheep stated. The power Draw will only be sligtly different when it needs to be charged after an outage but this wont be more than if you where running the device without a power outage. If there is no outage it will Draw the same amount needed for devices on or off it. You wouldnt see any difference in electricity bill.

This is true. But there are ISPs and Fibre providers that state they are not affected by loadshedding. Like Vuma, If youre Fibre provider is Vuma and you still experience Internet drops when internet goes down I would recommend reporting it to them.

A lot of their pops have decent UPS's and they have generators that travel but with the efficiency that eskom's loadshedding has been fukkin things up its not impossible for outages to happen.

But yes, Vuma generally does have powered pop's

Interesting the Huawei one I got with my router gives about 5 hours...what type of batteries will it have?
the inline black battery box? i cant get more than an hour if i tried out of mine, did spend a long time in a box though, may have hurt the batteries

Vumatel say that everything stays up and this holds true for clients who's using one so far. Unfortunately this is a factor out of our control in certain areas and situations. I would recommend contacting ISP before any UPS/Inverter/Generator is bought for this purpose.

Images from the one i bought mine lasted the whole 2.5 hours must still do a test to see how long it will actually last :)
