Title site says it all.
Not some silly new years resolution.

How I decided it's time:

  1. 1 Jan - recover from living on skaapvleis and braai since about 18 December. Bloated. Over it.
  2. 2 Jan - Get out of bed. Ek kan nie my fokken tekkies behoorlik vasmaak nie, want my donnerse maag is in die pad.
  3. 2 Jan late afternoon - Step on the scale, fucking 140kg on the dot
  4. 2 Jan evening - Busy deleting social media, come across photos of myself from varsity in 2014 - get sad as fuck, different girl in every photo, nowadays I don't stand a chance
  5. 2 Jan evening part two: Read as much as I can about the matter. Devise plan.

The plan:

  1. According to my weight and height, i can eat 2300 kcal per day, to start inducing weight loss
  2. Order Evlution LeanMode to help with cravings, seems to have good ratings. Supplier throws in Evlution Nitelean for free because he a nice boi - Home
  3. Fuck exercise, I hate exercise almost as much as I hate Liberals
  4. Eat what I usually eat, but keep track of kcal via the Samsung Health app

Side comments:

  1. Despite my horrendous diet to date, consisting of vast amounts of garage pies and Monster, I have to drink Euthyrox (medication for inactive Thyroid).
  2. Realise I've been drinking that shit wrong for 12 years, supposed to be used one hour before any meals, snacks, drinks etc to actually work.
  3. Start doing it the right way.
  4. Chronic meds I use (I have no choice), also induces appetite, but I have to deal with it, hopefully the weight supplements help in reducing appetite.
  5. Counting calories can be pain in the ass initially, but you get used to it, eventually you learn to count what you eat.
  6. I have not starved myself on some extreme Keto diet or whatever, meals mostly consist of chicken and rice, sometimes varied with a hamburger or whatever. What you eat does not matter IMHO. Just count calories. Know that if you eat a Steers burger at 10, you will have to starve until dinner before you eat again etc.

It sucked initially, but I'm getting used to it. My number one reason for eating bad was my total lack of planning. Now I prepare meals for the week in advance, to avoid situations where I start eating evil shit because I did not pack lunch for work/too lazy etc. Already saving money too. Fuck the restaurants and all fast food places in South Africa.

It's now 11 January, and I'm down to 137KG.

I am still a fat fuck by all measures, but it's changing for the better.

Approach is therefore 3 pronged:

-Count and limit calories
-Use appetite suppressor
-Drink medicine the way should be doing for it to be effective

Will update as I progress.

2000 years ago we were eating fruit and animals, not this graan kak.

So, my suggestion is to cut out ANY processed foods.
Wheat, sugar all that shit. in other words, bread, pastas etc.
Also don't create smoothies or drink juice. Eat the whole fruit, it has a different effect on your body when you drink it compared to eating it.

But keep in mind, while counting them joules, certain foods may contain more sugar than other foods for the same amount of kilojoules.

The system as you look at it now is designed to keep you wanting more sugars and carbs. Keep you dumb and ensure you will be a good little worker ant while keeping you "sick" to fund the medical aid companies.

You are correct, I realised some of the stuff I keep in the kitchen is downright evil for the amount of calories compared to portion size. Case in point: Ina Paarman Cheese Sauce. Disaster. Threw it out this morning.
Agree with you on processed garbage. I have a huge addiction to pasta, and it's not an option anymore. Once I start I can't stop until I'm lying in a coma on the sofa. I do need something sweet now and then, but I've limited it to one serving of 70% Lindt.

This will sound terrible but I find not eating works wonders!

Seriously, I am overweight but I don't NEED to eat. On my own I have a meal every few days, at home there is always food around and snacks. The hunger passes quickly and I actually feel far better (no doubt carbs are a big culprit here to feeling kak). Energy increases soon after and my head clears. Not ideal for the long term (I hear death is a sure fire way to lose body mass though) but it goes a long way to getting cravings and dependencies out the way.

The number 1 and only advise that you should follow is FOLLOW THROUGH... or DON'T GIVE UP...

Most plans people start would and could work for them but when they don't see immediate results they tend to give up.

DON'T GIVE UP..

Also, If you need someone to help you with a diet plan and workouts, there's a guy that I met here on Carb I think. He does calesthetics (not sure how you spell that) and he's basically just muscle. I think he charges a fee, but if you need a number let me know.

I can imagine it works. But I have a pretty emotional connection to food. I decided to do this in a sustainable way. If I punish myself hard everyday I won't be able to keep up the fight.

Dankie my kroon. When the worst weight is off I'll look some excersizing stuff too.

I also only eat once a day most of the time.
Recently my girlfriend also joined my eating habbits, and after a few weeks she doesnt crave breakfast and lunch anymore

I found eating pastas/sugars turn me into a retard then i cant function well enough at work. And thats why i originally stopped eating breakfast and lunch.

I strongly believe that back in them days, you spent the morning hunting for food, then "lunch time" processing it, and finally eating your only meal for the day dinner time.

The alternative is that you get a purity ring.
That way you can be fat, just not a fat fuck.

JK. I am sitting with some flab myself that needs to disappear.
The holidays were too good.

YES SIR! Just keep on that grind. 2016 I started at 144 kgs. Today I weigh in about 99 to 103 kg depends on season etc. Best advice I can give you. Calories in Calories out. Fuck what people say. I know its not fun doing it. Working out your caloric intake for the day etc but trust me it works. NOTHING worked for me. No diets. No pills. Just taking serious note of my caloric intake and trying to stay in a deficit. At first start very small. 200 - 400 calorie deficit from your normal eating range. You will need to play around and try different calorie levels to see where your body is the happiest at functioning. But nice one! Keep it up

I think what you are referring to is ketosis?

I frequently do a complete food fast for a few days..

I eat my last meal on a Sunday at 12PM then I skip supper and for the next 2 to 3 days I try to not eat, just frequent water.. Also it helps to have a re hydrate at least twice a day.

I've read endless benefits for fasting this way, some people say you are "starving" yourself, don't care.. I do it from the research I've seen and I lose at least 3 to 4 kg every time I do this fast. And when ketosis hits you feel actually amazing..

Anyways, that's what I do at least 2 - 3 times a year.. I'm literally doing a fast from this Sunday.. I currently weight around 66kg, when I'm done I should be in the region of about 62 naybe 61kg.. I'm not necessarily overweight but still have a tummy..

Anyways, long story short, this is also a decent form of dieting in my books. Just make sure to drink plenty water and monitor how you feel etc.. start off slow.. Do one day.. then two.. then slowly push it when you get used to it.. and when you do break your fast, make sure you don't eat a LOT, you first break the fastwith a soup ro something light for your stomach to slowly start working again.

You got this bud. I'm on a similar journey this year too.

Got kidney stones in 2018, changed lifestyle. Dropped from 125kg to 90kg over 2 years and I intended to keep going till I hit 70kg.
Then COVID happened and due to a variety of factors (not wanting to go to the stores for fresh food and settling for frozen high calorie stuff that can just be fried, eating what I want because why not, world is messed up, etc) I went back up to 122kg.

After Christmas I realized I need to get back down the a healthy weight, then decided to do a tally and spent like R20k in MrD/UberEats last year.

Nee fok it. Time to do this properly, so :
- I got an airfryer - amazing option, quicker than oven and less calories compared to something fried.
- I set up MyFitnessPal again for calorie counting. Can't beat science, can't lose weight if you're putting in more than what you burn.
- Started drinking 3L of water, no fizzy stuff etc
- Fruit every day for fibre
- Started planning the weeks meals, choosing lower calorie stuff. Minimizing white pasta, all wholewheat or maize stuff instead of white bread, no fried things, no things with tons of butter or oil, choosing eggs over toast etc..
- I starting planning alternative quick meals for the days when I usually ended up ordering food (Fri nights, random busy nights in the week when I don't want to spend much time cooking etc). I like the Woolworths vegetarian stuff (samoosas, kievs, etc) because they just go in the airfryer and it's pretty quick and low calorie as it doesn't have meat.

Down 3.6kg in 2.5 weeks, long way to go. Just need to stay motivated, as once that motivation is gone then the losses disappear over time if one falls back into bad habits.

You got this bud!

I went from 120KG to 80KG,

I hated exercise, I am now addicted, try to get those steps in.

Side note, I still cannot pick up chicks, although when guessing my age, they say i look 5 years younger then my actual age, that is without hair (working on that next)

You gave me a few ideas with food there, thanks man. Good luck on your battle too.

Is this the Ligma you mentioned in your other post?

If so, good luck man. You got this!

When you at goal weight women usually happen automatically. Just be same horrible self. They love people with broken personalities. Not saying you are fucked up. I am.

Ja although I think keto (the diet) stil tries to have you eat fats. I've done Banting and fuck me I actually got gatvol of meat!

But yeah, basically you feel kak, go through detox and your body shifts to using your own fat to keep going. Funny thing is I accidentally did it a few years ago after a rather brutal bout of gastritis had my stomach lining fucked up. People kept asking me how I was doing each day because I wasn't eating and after day three I was bouncy and head was so clear. Told everyone I hadn't felt that good for a long time.

I believe some people benefit more than others in the sense that some, like me, feel great while others feel shit but it is a great kickstart because it decreases appetite and cravings (once the usual chemicals leave your system) so the urge to run out and eat all sorts is gone.

Another benefit, things like indigestion disappeared for me afterwards in the sense that things that usually set it off didn't anymore. :)

My buddy and I are on opposite sides of the spectrum - same age, he's 65kg and I'm 118kg, he has a full head of hair and I probably have 75% of it left lol. Neither of us have any rizz whatsoever and we have both not had any success with the ladies.

Meanwhile my mid 50s uncle clinging to his last bit of hair has a wife in her mid 30s. He's rich btw, they're currently touring Europe.

Economics...... Haha

I was on the other end of the spectrum, where I would eat whatever I want and gym super hard twice a day, 5 days a week. Would lose 1kg like clockwork every week, this method does eventually lead to a plateau where you stop losing, but the key is to then integrate dietary measures.

I fell out of routine when the gyms closed for covid and reckon this year I'm getting back in (as cliche as it sounds to be the back to the gym january crowd)

Similar boat here at 107.5KG

Went to a dietician in December
Started eating plan from 04/01/2024
Toned down on the alcohol intake
Gyming 5 days a week (Cardio Mostly then some weight training)

Lets see how it goes, good luck.

FYI: I never liked excersing or gym before now and once you get into it abit it make you feel healthy and great.

Nice man! Putting in the effort and realizing a change needs to happen.

When I use to gym (have not in a couple of years now), what I found worked well for me when I needed to cut was intermittent fasting.
Generally I would skip breakfast and eat lunch around 1pm to 2pm and then supper (sometimes a snack inbetween).
At first it can be difficult if you are use to eating breakfast, but your body adapts and its not as bad - however when you are in a calorie deficit it takes longer for your body to adjust.

I found this helped as it helped me enjoy the meals I did eat more and I felt more satisfied after those meals as they were able to be larger meals (fitting your daily calories into 2 meals instead of say 3 meals).
I believe intermittent fasting can have some other benefits too. So maybe something worth looking into and considering.

The other thing, which I think you are already doing, is to eat food you still enjoy (within reason obviously). If you eat food you do not enjoy, its not going to be sustainable long term and will be very difficult.
As you said, you can still have a Steers burger every now and then, but one needs to realise that it contains a lot more calories and you won't be as full. So it's not the best thing to eat, however there may be other food items you can eat which contain less calories which you still enjoy - maybe chicken pieces in the oven, spaghetti bolognaise, steak - add some veg and maybe a bit of carbs for a more rounded and balanced meal and one may actually be surprised how little calories "real food" can be compared to the processed food.

Also drinking calories is a big no no! If you are able to stop drinking calories it will make a massive difference and make it far easier to keep within your calorie limit.

As you said, losing or gaining weight is as simple as calories in vs calories out.

One last thing, do not lose the weight too quickly as then you're left with a lot more excess skin. If you lose it slower, the body has more time to adapt and you end up with less excess skin. Slow and steady wins the race here.
