How to import a Steam Deck with MyUS

If you're going down the route anyway - what's the chances of me hopping on to that purchase bandwagon?
Wondering if customs, taxes etc etc might be somewhat cheaper bringing in more than one device on the same order?
Your duties and taxes won't change, both are based on the dutiable value of the goods brought in.

Updated the post - had to have some other conversations with the MyUS agents which were fruitful. They charge shipping insurance @ $2.99 per $100 of value of the item(s) shipped, which needs to be selected when generating the invoice. So that works out to $11.96 for our $399 deck (going for the higher value here, and not the $8.97)

Looks like MyUS also offers a tax-free shipping address in Florida, so that may assist in lowering the cost of the purchase :)

That said, I did see a post yesterday about a Steam Deck being sold here, still waiting for a reply on it though 🤔

@Beylie or @Kav33r stop playing hard to get and give this man your big Deck! #please

I have seen one Facebook market for 13k its a 256mb model. It looks legit thou but not sure
Thats a really good price for a 256gb, to import it would be around 14k I think.

Thanks for helping a brother out everyone :)
Let us know what you think of it. I have a few weeks to wait before I can get my 64GB model😅, so reading about other people enjoying their's helps to make me less anxious about the wait

For what it's worth this doesn't seem to work with Steam, I still paid US tax on my Steam Deck which boosted the price to around $425. I have successfully ordered other stuff in the US also via myus.com using their tax free zip code which did work correctly (i.e., no US taxes) so I think it's just that Steam checkout process doesn't recognize this or something, I supposed one could contact them and ask but I chose to rather just pay the $25 than risk them just cancelling my order.

So I just ordered the 64GB model and upgraded the SSD to 512GB myself (which I found very easy to do), it works out way cheaper than the official 512GB, personally I don't care about things like an exclusive case, I guess the anti-glare screen coating would be nice but not worth the extra cost to me, haven't had any issues with glare to be honest. :)

@redarrow that's basically what I was planning on doing - though I must say the hard-shell carry case is definitely a bonus. It comes with a screen cleaner, and a nook to store your power cable when you're on the go :) Happy Decking!
@zaydm_n - managed to play a few games last night already, but between load-shedding and internet issues I was quite restricted. Really loving it so far though :D When I get some decent game time in I'll let you know

To those guys who've replaced the SSD's in their decks, what brand and model did you guys get?

I got a "SK Hynix BC511" , I didn't go out of my way to pick any particular brand, I just got lucky and found it listed on a bidorbuy Crazy Wednesday auction a couple of days after ordering my Steam Deck so I snapped it up for around R600. :D

Hows the temps with it?

I see the 2230 ssds arent too badly priced.

Honestly no idea, I don't even know where to find them?
😅not sure, but I think the deck has an overlay that can show you the temps of the system, not sure if it has the ssd though.
Maybe a better question to ask is how is the battery drain?

Well I wouldn't really be able to answer how the SSD affected it as I hardly used it with the original 64GB emmc, just booted it up made sure it worked and then shutdown and installed the new SSD.

I doubt it had a significant impact as I seem to get typical use times ranging from a couple of hours to quite a lot more, very much game dependent, I really ought to experiment more with all the settings I guess, I've mostly just been using it as is.

Cool, thanks man.
I'm considering the SSD swap if I get a deck, but I'm not sure if I will actually need it as I already have a 512gb micro sd.
The 2230 ssd's are not badly priced though compared to buying the 512gb deck

Anyone here who imported a 512gb thats willing to share what they paid in total?

Wondering if the 17k odd floating around is reasonable or if I should just import it myself.

If imported via Scott's Shipping, the quote I got back in November was R17500, so it sounds about right.

The 512GB deck is 650 dollars, so to get the price with possible import duties and shipping:
650(1 + (1+10%)×15% + 9%) + 75 + 2,99x6 + 10 +650×6%= 967

967 dollars at the current exchange rate is about 16500 or so. The calc above is a rough calc, don't take it as 100% what your price will be. I rounded up all the numbers I used to get a higher value to help account for any unforeseen costs

I know that there may be no duties(but there will be vat) on import of the deck if its labelled as a gaming device, but since it is technically a PC, for a safe estimate I'd include the 9% import duties.

I calculated shipping and insurance as per the original post above and estimated 10 dollars for other miscellaneous packaging costs.

Floridas sales tax is 6%, so I put that in as well, as steam still charges you the sales tax even if you use MyUS's tax free address.

So I would say a price of R17k is fair.

Also, the price of a 64GB unit in the original post above is less than what I've seen people actually pay, its usually around 10600-10800. That sales tax and other packaging costs does add quite a bit on.

Is this ordering through Ebay or the Steam store?

Hi there. Pretty new here but also looking to get a Steam Deck. Nobody has mentioned ordering directly off Amazon with the costs involved. I added a 256gb model with an additional dock to my cart. Shipping to CT and all customs/taxes included. Dunno how to upload screenshots here so I'll add in the costs as best I can.

For R17k you can get a standalone 512gb deck on here, a true 512 and not a 64 upgraded to 512 - so should have the carry case and antiglare screen.

I see the 512 from Amazon goes for R20k+- all inclusive.

I have no idea where that other dude thinks he's going to get R25k from for a 64gb

I will keep looking around here for a reasonable offer then. It is a pity about our currency at the moment.

Definitely looking for either the 256gb or 512gb. Thanks for the heads-up.

Why can't I do this on my main account? If I don't mind being region locked, as I won't be buying games for a year anyway. I want the steamdeck exclusive community profile too.
Is there any other reason I can't do this on my main account.
Thank you
Edit: Nevermind its for the 512gb

Hey man.
Did you come right? I also want to attempt the process of bringing in a Steam Deck, just researching all available options.
