I see a lot of new South African Ecom stores on the rise

But I never know if they're scams or not

And a lot of them aren't listed on Hello Peter.

Other than word of mouth, how else can I verify that they're a legit company?

Do they meet the e-commerce requirements set out by the SA Government?

Information you legally have to display on your site

South African law requires you to display certain information on your website, and this includes the following:

Company Information
  • Full name and legal status of your company
  • Company registration number, name of office bearers and company’s place of registration
  • Membership of any self-regulatory or accreditation bodies to which the company belongs and its contact details
  • Any code of conduct to which the company subscribes and how the code can be accessed
Contact information
  • Physical address and telephone number
  • Email address
And more...
Most Ecom stores don't meet these requirements...

Not gonna lie, I don't think I've ever seen an Ecom store follow these guidelines 😂😂

Even the big ones like Takealot.

For Point 2 on your list, is that CIPC?

It is yeah. Part of the reason it's supposed to more closely monitor ecom stores to ensure they aren't fraudulent etc.
I know Progenix.co.za (@Oj0) site meets all the criteria.

I check their socials to see when the page was created, and if there's regular posts and how many followers.

What if they’re just starting out and their posting regularly but not many followers?

I think I need some strong bleach to remove that specific word that I just read...
Progenix.co.za will actually honour the warranty claims... 😂
Really? I bought a 30K PC from Evetech and my PSU Surged. When I took it to Evetech, they replaced it for me same time. With no issues

Maybe I was lucky?
