Got Vodacom fibre at home - running on the "default" router they give you. Horrible piece of equipment. After much to- and -fro, Vodacom reluctantly gave me the PPPOE details for the fibre.

TL; DR:
- I have tried everything with the brand new Asus router, but I can't get it to sync on the fibre line
- I need someone to come solve the issue for me - happy to pay for the time and effort

Anyone had any experience with Vodacom, or said router?

Sometimes you need to clone the Mac Address of the old router otherwise it won't work.

Vodacom has been useless. They straight up refuse to support or help.

I will be really pissed if this was the reason why it didn't work.

Thanks for the suggestion - will give it a try.

Some FNO's you just need to have the ONT turned off for 1 hour so it can clear the MAC address.

Networking is not my strongpoint :p

Are you saying power off the ONT (black box), configure the ASUS router, and then turn the ONT on again after an hour?

1. If the Asus has bridge mode, you can enable it and it will piggyback off of the Vodacom router. ONT -> Vodacom router -> Asus -> rest of your LAN. This will disable the DHCP server, NAT and some other stuff on the Asus.

2. As @el_guapo3291 & @Rickster pointed out, you may need to setup the Asus to "clone" the MAC address of the Vodacom unit. 1st try Ricksters suggestion, and if that doesnt work, then you'll need to set the Asus to clone the MAC of the Vodacom unit.

I don't know about Vodacom specifically, but I think in general:
1. Do you have your ONT box plugged in an on?
Can you take a picture of it and it's ports?

2. When you plug in your laptop to the ONT box, do you get a network connection (not necessarily internet connection, just a network connection to know that the port is on)?

With my provider (OpenServe) they gave a Hauwei ONT where only 1 lan port works(they disabled the others), port 1.
I use an ethernet from my router's WAN port into port 1 of the ONT, then configure the WAN type on my router as PPPoE with the login details from my ISP, and that's pretty much it.

Hi bud, I stay close by. Close to Carnival City. Might be able to come and have a look.. Have a few of those Vodacom routers at home but ISP is with Vox. But happy to help. Have quite some knowledge around routers and stuff. Pop me a dm if you need some help.

If I don't come right this weekend I will definitely give you a shout

Got a couple of DMs also offering help!

Carbies are legends!

Guys - this is redicilous.

Reset the router to factory default last night. Then configured it again and it just worked. No daisy chaining from the Vodacom router, no need for MAC cloning, no need to switch things off for an hour.

Thanks for all the help!
