I realize this might not make me popular but I feel the need to say this - and I'm sure there are tons of people that feel the same.
You are free to voice your opinion, like many others on the forum, whether it makes you popular or unpopular. I, however, would rather get the facts straight before making an uninformed post.
I for one am baffled by this handout post - OP sells his gaming rig for security upgrades -gets 16k from that sale - OP then gets R5800 from fellow carb members and then buys a security system for almost 4k. I thought the sale of the gaming rig was to accommodate the security upgrades and donations from this handout post was implicitly for putting together a new rig for 'free'
Wrong. I sold my rig to pay for the installation of an electric fence, in a rather large corner house, that's not mine. I rent from my inlaws. Security upgrade no 1.
I then used some of the donated cash, to purchase an alarm system (armed response), which amounted to R4k. Security upgrade no 2.
I then used the remainder of the cash I had, to secure a CPU.
OP then gets a crap ton of some awesome hardware and then proceeds to sell some of them off for cash. Why take hardware for free that you have no intention of using in the first place.
A crap ton of awesome hardware? Define crap ton, I received a case, 60gb ssd, an external sound card,2tb hdd, psu and 2x2gb RAM, a faulty laptop and a 250gb SSD.
The z87 motherboard and 2x8gb ram, I got from trading the more expensive Z170 motherboard (which I had to pay @Firstrm_za R500 for, in the event that it works, which I did).
I sold the 2x8gb RAM on the forum as it was overkill for a gaming setup. Super demanding of me, eh? Insisting I keep the high end stuff.
OP follows up on a gaming rig sale that turns out to be a scam. An indication that were it not a scam he was prepared to initiate a purchase and follow through if at all.
OP insists on certain type of hardware. This is a handout - not a McDonalds order at the little speaker.
I was in a position to purchase the entire machine, and then SELL the rest of the items I did not need, and only keep the cpu. Buying a full rig at a cheap price and reselling the other parts often enables you to purchase the component that you want (in this case the cpu) at a relative bargain. I was not after the entire rig, only the CPU. If you check the thread, you'll see that I even offer another member that was interested in buying the rig, the opportunity to buy the rest of the hardware, minus the cpu.
I for one would be extremely chuffed were I getting a free 3rd gen CPU as opposed to kind of demanding a 4th gen CPU.
Kind of demanding? Please, don't read into stuff that does not exist, if I was -demanding- in ANY way, I'd have kept the Z170 board and -demanded- a 6th series CPU.
A 3rd Gen CPU does not fit on a 4th series board (socket 1155 vs 1150), I only turned down the 3rd gen cpu as I could not USE it.
OP has a PS4 - why not sell that off - or even better get a game or 2 donated/borrowed so you can game. Its a GAMING console after all - and all you want to do is game
Are you aware of the cost of Playstation 4 titles? I only own 2 games on the console, 1 Resogun (which is around R120) and Street Fighter V (which a friend bought for me). The PlayStation is used mostly for streaming which the wife and kid uses. Selling it off would not have been financially intelligent.
We all go through tough times where life kicks us in the nuts - don't get me wrong - I empathize with the your plight OP - but in all honesty were it me in your position my 'gaming' priorities would be far far removed and I would focus on the actual problems at hand.
Perhaps I should shed some light here for you. I work, on average 40-50 hours overtime a month, just to make ends meet. That is, to have a roof over my head, food and a car to drive to work. I then do work in my spare time, to cover the shortfall, as my salary with said overtime, does not cover everything. This is the main reason I sold my gaming rig, as I had no other expendable cash to afford the electric fence. So to respond to your statement, for 2 months, I went without gaming and a rig, focusing on the problem at hand, IE security.
I wouldn't put up a handout post for free shit but rather put out a help post for trying to secure your home, your self and your family.
I sincerely hope you never have to be in my shoes, having to experience what I have and gone through what I have, only to have somebody post a aggressive post like this.

Maybe it's just me and my convictions.
Perhaps it is, and you have a right to them, but perhaps next time get the full picture before posting something.
