Help me choose monitors for the office [emoji985]

1920 x 1200 for productivity used to be the bomb! I used to have 3x Mecer's in that variant. Really nice aspect ratio for text based work.

I really wish I could've lended a hand to convince you towards the 2560x1440p screens. They are fantastic, and there really is no substitute. Hopefully you get to experience some of them soon, I will never be able to go back to 1080p. Not for work, not for gaming.

With that said, you made no mistake buying the SE2717H. They are fantastic monitors for their price. Can't really go wrong with Dell screens these days.

I brought the 2 T260s back to the office today. Man, they are a lot better for me than the 1080p Dells.

The Dells are going home, one to function as a TV for Netflix (which I think it will do well) and the other to function as a second screen in a home office for occasional text-heavy work (which I think will also be fine).

What screen would you have recommended as an upgrade to the T260s for text-heavy work, as a matter of interest?

I think someone have mentioned them in this thread, but for sure the Dell U2717D, or the 25" variant. (I've owned both)

Awesome professional monitors. Thin bezels and fantastic stands. Really nice for the money.

Dell U2717D 27" WQHD (2560x1440) IPS Anti-Glare InfinityEdge Desktop Monitor - Wootware

Ah yes. I did have a look at these.

They were a bit too pricey for my humble budget (which may have been too optimistic to begin with) and I was worried that in order to ensure that high resolution being pushed to two screens, I'd need to invest in a dock as well, adding to the already-stretched budget.

Pretty stoked to be back on my T260s right now, all things considered.

Yeah those are hard to upgrade from... I had a tough time leaving mine behind. Still have one... Keeping it for that aspect ratio.

I will never understand why 16:10 aspect ratio never became industry standard for computers. It is superior to 16:9 for productivity imo. My laptop screen is also 16:10, which is awesome for working on the go.

Because people hate black bars. Although the point is now moot because where cinematics used to be 16:9 they are now often 2.35:1 like movies so one has black bars anyways, but I suppose your average TV show is still "borderless".
I'd much rather put up up with a bit of letterboxing than feeling this cramped productivity-wise but I was mostly alone in that.

I'm with you.

My daily update: T260s working flawlessly as dual monitors at the office.

The one Dell 1080p is great at home as a Netflix TV.

I'm assuming if I found like 5 or 6 grand for a 4k 28" screen, the text would be really small cos of all the pixels?

Yep. If you can find 6 grand rather get the U2717D.

Then I'd probably end up scaling the thing up by like 150% so I can actually read the text and be back to square one [emoji23]

No. Not with the U2717D, text will be a bit smaller yes, but sharpness and clarity will be improved so it should still remain readable.

Remember my main monitor is a 27" 1440P monitor (as is the case for MANY people on Carb, and a lot of the rest are still aspiring to reach that point). In fact it should be very similar to the U2717D except it's gaming grade rather than just professional like the Dell.

If you want bigger text then it has a to be a 32" VA...but whether you will enjoy the curve is a different problem entirely.

But yes, I wouldn't dream of trying a 4K 28" monitor. It will be the same or worse than 1440P at 24".
