Yes, another one of those threads... [emoji15]

So my current setup at the office is three Samsung T260s, in all of their 25.5" 16x10 glory. I really love these screens, but at home where I work quite a lot I have only a tiny laptop from which to work. So I need to get a screen or two for a home office setup, so I was thinking of upgrading the work T260s and taking a couple of them home for the home office.

Budget: absolute max R10k. R6k would be a lot more palatable (also for the SO...)

What do I do all day? A lot of drafting, emails, reading documents and the like. Nothing graphics intensive. No gaming. No watching of videos or movies. I'm hoping for a bit more screen real estate, and basically something a bit newer than these lovely T260s (which are nearly 10 years old now).

This has caught my eye:Takealot.com: Online Shopping | SA's leading online store. Wondering if a couple of these would work well at the office, retaining one T260 as a third screen.

Anyone have any views or recommendations?

I considered this 42" monster but the price is quite high and I feel as if I'd prefer 3 separate physical screens than one giant display with separate panels: Takealot.com: Online Shopping | SA's leading online store

All views welcomed :)

No replacement for displacement.... I'd suggest a 2k res primary at home. Then you can use your laptop secondary.
If you do miss the physical real estate then, you can always just add normal 1080p side screens later?

I like monitors that can rotate. If I edit documentation, or read emails I like to utilize my Tokyo real estate as well as I can

The left hand monitor suits looking at a whole page perfectly in MS word. Should I edit the same page on one of the other screens, I will see only half the page. and a lot of open white space on both sides of the document.

these dells also are height adjustable, some others are not

this is how they look from the side (you can see how much it can move up and down as well)

and they do have vesa mounts - in case you want to mount them later

Hell no to the one you saw on Takealot. Curved 1080P 27" is NOT what you want for work, ever.

Um, whichever Dells fit the budget basically.
Edit: Doesn't fit your budget if you want to get more than one, but this Dell U2717D 27" WQHD (2560x1440) IPS Anti-Glare InfinityEdge Desktop Monitor - Wootware

You could also try 2 of these (slightly over budget) Dell U2518D 25" UltraSharp WQHD (2560x1440) 60Hz 5ms IPS LED Backlit Desktop Monitor - Wootware
but they may be a bit small

@hj2k_x FHD or WQHD like suggested in quoted?

(but I do agree with whatever dells fit the budget)
btw, mine are all 24 incher, fhd

one that I found after I posted btw, is the dell P4317q, which is actually very alluring. also, if it does the work of 4 screens, you don't need lots of cables, docking stations, etc.

(its not something I normally would look at, as it is past the "I'm a cheapskate, and this is more than 2k for a screen" price barrier)

Dell P4317Q 43" Professional Monitor - Best Deal - South Africa
and if you don't like evetech
Takealot.com: Online Shopping | SA's leading online store

(just think of a 2x2 array of 21.5 inch fhd screens in a single package)

What do you mean by 2k res?

Nice setup!

Which Dells are those particular ones you have there?

Yes, I was looking at those as well.

You think the flat is better than the curved? I've only really seen curved TVs. Never worked on a curved monitor but I like the idea...

For work, definitely.
Problem is the lower screen real estate of 1080P.

Ok. The curvature more of a gimmick or better for watching videos or graphics intensive things rather than word processing?

Sent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk

WQHD 1440P in other words 2560x1440
It's a common error to refer to that res as 2K.
All three displays are coming out of my laptop, so I'd have to check that they would support higher resolutions than 1080p...

Yes, that giant 43" is the one I linked in the OP.

Looks lovely and the reviews are great. But it is R11k which is quite a hefty amount... Almost double my ideal budget.

It's for immersion. And it's ok on a 32" or greater where a large portion of the screen still feels flat. But on smaller monitors (27" and 24") it's really hard to constantly view text. Excels are an absolute no-no.

Maybe something CAD is ok, or other 3D modelling, but not more text and spreadsheet based work.

Ok. That is good to know. I was quite keen on the curvature otherwise.

Lower screen real estate of 1080p? Lower than what? Higher resolutions? [emoji15]

Ah ok. That won't work for me then. I'll be looking at a lot of documents and text all the time. Flat it shall be.

The T260

1920x1200 VS 1920x1080
Trust me, you REALLY feel that loss of 120 pixels.
Yes you can get over it, but it will take a while. I'm actually not sure I'm over it although 1440P definitely helps.

Ahhh ok.

There aren't a lot of 1920x1200 screens these days. Or at least not a lot of cheap ones, right? Everything is 1920x1080...

Yep, hence the WQHD recommendation.

Although you might also be ok with a nice ultrawide.
2 of those, again over budget but perhaps your best choice and easiest to render (I think)

(or make a wanted thread on the forum for two UM68s)

Looks lovely. Maybe I could do one really nice main monitor and keep two T260s as secondaries. I tend to do most of the work on the one main screen as it is...

It's got DisplayPort right? Just use that and you'll be golden.

Look there's nothing wrong with the 2717H's, but they're more a sidegrade than an upgrade.
Yeah. That was my concern the last time I did this dance. That the T260s are pretty solid already. So I want to make sure I do upgrade and don't move sideways. The lappie is one of the Dells that does not have display port. It has one hdmi, one vga, one USB-c and three USB3.0. Currently using the hdmi, vga and USB3.0 (with an adaptor) to run the 3 screens...

Does your lappy have only the standard graphics? But it is an e-series, so you can easily plonk it on a docking station, and the bigger one (that we use) have 2 x dp
That link was just one I found regarding the issue if resolution on Dells. My lappie is a 5480..

Then it sounds like you need the upgrade your laptop first :p

Forget about any sort of upgrade monitor on the VGA, that has it's last day a few years ago already.

HMDI ought to be ok and one can get USB-C to DisplayPort adapters, probably USB3 to Displayport as well. So you should be ok. But I'm not too clued up on how well those things work.

Why not just leave the T260s at work and get a 34" ultrawide (like the LG I recommended) for home, there should definitely be something that can run the monitor over USB-C?
