Hey Folks, I've yet to test out any quality headphone. My current audio setup are 2 12" pioneer subs with some few 6x9's. I've been using it for years.

Is there any suitable headphone that give me that kind bass i'm used to.

There's also a 15" enclosed sub I used but that broke alot of glass ware in the crib.

Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO 250 Ohm. [You'll definitely need something to drive these / and above headphones if you really want to get everything out of them].

I’d recommend the DT990 over the 770. I have both. The soundstage on the 990’s is incredible. Can’t really go wrong with either.

dt 770 80ohms - i have that or fostex

msrp7 is a shout at another option

Bass!? Yuck.

If you really want it, look for closed back headphones.

Also here:

You want Bass? Garbage headset with vibrational bass then.
Something like: Gamdias Hebe P1A RGB 7.1 Gaming Headset - Best Deal - South Africa (or the regular Hebe P1 or Hephaestus)

With quality headsets/headphones bass actually tends to go down because contrary to headbanger belief good bass actually doesn't shake the room and drown out all other sounds.

For somewhat accurate and powerful bass you could look at:
B & W P series (7 or px)
Sennie HD1
Vmoda (take your pick here as their range can be pretty powerful with bass)

If bass is all your after, no accuracy, soundstage, separation, etc, then just buy a pair of older gen beats and live with kak audio.
You're not going to get the same amount of bass from headphones as your 6x9s and sub

Bass isn't necessarily a bad thing as long as it's clean and detailed. Headphones that add their own flavours tend to overdo bass completely where it ends up killing all the mids and sounding terrible. Some people love it though - ever heard a pair of Beats? Sies.

OP, it's been said in this thread already - depends on your budget. You can blow some serious cash on a setup. My best advise from my small collection over the years, get the best pair of headphones you can afford along with the best source (320kbps is a good starter, then FLAC if you want, but Google Music is fine, TIDAL is even better), then an amp/DAC or both and build it up from there.

Beyerdynamic make incredibly good cans. The DT990s are excellent, a step up from there could be the DT 1990s or DT 1770s if you prefer closed back on the latter.

Have fun :)

EDIT: Or a good pair of wireless headphones work too. I've recently bought myself a pair of Sony WH-1000MX3s and they're the best match for listening to good quality tracks in an office environment.

Tested my dt770 vs vmoda - dt770 takes it

B and w p those are great but expensive - love the build quality but that's what you are paying for - also very similar to audio technica msrp7 in my opinion

Where did you buy the MX3's? I'm thinking about picking up the MX3 this year, to make my travels more enjoyable. They have excellent reviews across the board.

Picked them up on Takelot Takealot.com: Online Shopping | SA's leading online store
They're great for noise cancelling, office use and travel. The app is terrible, and wired kills these with sound. But even with noise isolating headphones at a good volume, annoying office noise comes in. Plus my DT 1770s don't travel light.

For bass, there can't be any other than Philips Fidelio X2. Quite bass heavy, but really fun to listen to.

A lot of people seems to recommend the DT990. But I found them pretty fatiguing. These are bright headphones and really brings the vocals out but the sibilance...
Just can't stand it.

Everyone differs on their hearing preference, so you might have to bounce around a bit before finding that perfect pair.

Much thanks for the input. I am stuck in between investing in studio monitors or headphones especially SQL wise.

My budget is around 10K or less for either monitors or headphones.

I don't mind building it in blocks. First 2 monitors, another 3 in the future for 5.1 setup + an SVS SB - 1000.

But if you're saying I can get that type of quality or experience with the headphones recommeded, I will start with those first.

Philips x2 is on my bucket list.

Pitty its hard to get here in rsa.

Ps headphones over monitors everyday. Way cheaper to setup

Me too. I'm gonna start looking for a set soon. I'm not using my DT770's, so thinking of selling them and putting the money towards the X2's. I still have my AKG553's for closed-back. But I hardly use closed-back anymore, so they're kinda just gathering dust atm.

Keep the dt770 sell the akg rather.

If i get the x2 i hace open and close back headphones

Well then... you have options. You could get 2 entry audiophile headies (like an open-back and closed back) or just one kick-ass set, like the HD800 (a second-hand unit will come in under R10k, prob around R8k).

Strange that you missed my sale of them. You could always ask the person I sold my X2's to and check if he'll sell them on to you

I wouldn't recommend the HD800 if he's wanting a bass heavy headphone.

@PancakesZA said it best, JVC SZ2000.
Not available in SA afaik, would have to be imported and they retail for like $999.
To be honest no headphone with an obscene amount of bass will have the chest thumping bass you are used to.
KRK Rokit 8's would be my monitor pick, and if needed their matching sub if bass is lacking.

*Edit: My Bad, i see you can get them Refurbished through ebay for like R5K excl shipping
