Haven't been down this thread in a while, just been crazy busy and felt like too much to catch up!
That said, I've been going down the IEM rabbit hole, considering getting somthing or other for casual listening without the hassle of overhead cans (in other words, in bed, beach (if I ever get to one ever again), etc.). There don't really seem to be any "open back" equivalents other than this open sony pair which looks cool but reviews were very "meh", seems like being open doesn't translate well to IEMs.
Considering KZ something or others (ZSX maybe, but ZST for $20 looks like a steal, but their product line looks so confusing), T2s or well... something.
Thing is though, and I know they aren't great, but I'm drawn to the Airpods. The big draw is that they are just so easy to use and unfortunately nothing comes close to them w.r.t. call quality (from what I've seen) which is a big win. It's very easy to just insert one and answer a call vs. fiddling with other earphones or vs other wireless earbuds where the mics aren't as good and pick up too much ambience (wind noise, car noise etc.).
