I haven't watched the first video but that second video is really bad. He is biased (against the 800S) to the point of it being absurdly funny.. and to think some people take him seriously. Speaking from first hand experience with the 800S - and I could tag another 4 or 5 friends on Carb, but I won't bother - the 800S (and 800) are superb detailed headphones that fill a particular micro-detail niche.

He lost me at his comments about the 800S needing an amp and then something about being specific with the amp you choose etc. and blah blah blah bleet bleet (in fact he lost me a lot sooner - his negative commentary about the 800S cable was also out there.. the 800S has SUPERB stock cables). Ofc choosing the right amp (never mind DAC) is important. The DAC and amp are arguably the most important components in the chain yet he completely downplays this to the point of ignorance. I guess ignorance is bliss but sadly it'll be imparted onto unsuspecting viewers. Take these videos with a pinch of salt, there may be some merit hidden in there, but I was not able to see it.

Disclaimer: I have an 800S and I have spent time with the 800 (as well as the 600/650 etc.).. I know these headphones well and I've heard them with many different DACs and amps. I am not biased in my views to the point of protecting my frame of reference. I don't really care much about my frame of reference when useful information challenges it. Unfortunately I found no merit in anything he said in that second video, so I won't waste time watching the first.

So I finally got round to listening to the topping dx3 pro. Quite impressed with the Bluetooth quality from my pixel 2xl. I think I need to figure out the drivers for windows because the quality didn't seem as good as Bluetooth. At about the R3,000 mark it's the best all in one available IMO.

Any of the guys here maybe selling a Modi2/3 or Asus xonar eseence STX/STXII ? Budget R500 to R1000 depending on item...?

The uDSD is a superb option. Good choice... if you can find one. May have more luck on AVF. Gl.
I have a wanted thread over there as well and hey I might just have a uDSD in the new year! The owner out of SA and should be back late December...

Im selling the U7 MKII I got and some other bits to get to that mark...just waiting on owner's return

@Ninja_Theory @Nikkel - Off topic re AVForums.

I've been trying to register but never get the registration approved email (maybe the username flags something in their spam filter).
Username: virus786

Possible that any one of you could PM a mod to assist?

I have tried to contact them but alas I cannot as I am not a member to be able to see any contact details. 🤦‍♂️
Kind of stuck between a rock and hard place.

*edit* sent PM to @Family_Dog

Sent pm with avforum mod reply... Make a few changes to your signup details...you can always ask to change your username once the dust has settled
Thanks for the PM, yeah I suppose if I really need an account I'll change my ways. Won't hurt to register though I suppose for that odd once a couple months type of deals.

To be honest, I'm not really that active on there but pop in daily.... The age group on there is waaaayyyy more mature than on Carb... Good manners, decorum and respect is a huge plus over there...like a gentlemans club of sorts...

You do get the odd cat fight here n there but it lasts a day at most.

Best of all is the amount of knowledge you pick up on there is priceless!

There's actually quite a number of AVforum members that's registered here as well but not as vocal...few of them on this thread cos its their forte...

Your username ruffles a few feathers so change it...

All I can say is the Nuprime uDSD is a piece of magic at the price! Simply LOVING IT!

Using it DAC only... source PC...software JRiver Media Center 26>uDSD>RCA out>Yamaha A-S501 (stereo 2.1)>floorstands and active sub

I was in love with the Asus xonar essence ST I had.... sad it got water damaged...replaced with Asus U7 MK II but it just never really came close to the Asus ST sound card... the uDSD beats them both hands down!

Thank you Oom @chrisc

It’s a beautiful device. There’s a reason so many guys with high end audio still keep one on tap. It’s so easy to listen to, nothing harsh about it at all. Probably the best 2k you can spend in this game...

agreed - IMHO the uDSD is one of those "everyone has to have one" devices (y)

Can anyone recommend a good Mic for my SHP9500's. I've considered the Vmoda, I just want to know if there are any other viable options that may provide better sound quality or anything else :)

Been using the Asus ROG Delta headphones for overwatch.
Sound quality for the headphone is really good. But for gaming, its harder to pinpoint the direction of footsteps/gun shots compared to other gaming headphones I used. Still haven't tested the mic yet tho and the RGB effect is really nice.

Have been using a pair of HD598SE's for a few years via a Fiio E10k. Browsing Drop I've seen three pairs of headphones that look appealing - Sennheiser HD6XX, Hifiman HE4XX, AKG K7XX.

Considering how much I've enjoyed my HD598SE's, I'm probably going to settle on the HD6XX's in the new year once Scott's Shipping is taking orders again.

Anyone have any thoughts on any of the above models, or ordering experience from Drop?

I buy lots of stuff from Drop. I AGS it to ZA. Never had an issue to date. Usually around 2.5-3 weeks from date of order to my door. I think the 6xx is the perfect evolution from where you’re at. Get ready to hear details and resolution a few levels beyond the 598. The 6xx is a superb headphone. It’s arguably one of the best entry level headphones you can spend your hard earned cash on. It scales beautifully, so just a quick CUD warning.. in time you’ll want to upgrade your E10k.
